I think my battery may be nearing it's end. I stalled twice today at stops shortly after taking off and had to use the kickstart to get going again. The battery type is 12V 3ah,ytx4l-bs I don't want to buy anything cheap as far as quality goes but I don't want to spend a lot either. Does anybody know of a good quality brand battery and where to buy? Also, is there anywhere you can buy a battery fully charged and ready to install? Thanks.

LOL, well the smaller motorcycle-atv go from $35-55. No shipping or waiting. Cost more than yours, but I have no patience : (

Looks like the Yasuas are good. Do these need to be charged before installing?
Another question. The scooter started up fine but died a few minutes after riding when I slowed for a stoplight. The same thing happened the first time I rode the scooter today and again after letting it set for a few hours. Started right up, but died shortly into the ride and wouldn't start with the electric but did with the kick. Just trying to make sure it's a battery issue and not something else.

You might want to check for a something that is draining the battery. My brake light was staying on because the little switch got bent. It would be fine for about 10 minutes then the battery would get drained, and it would stall . I also had a bad regulator I think. The brake lights and the signal lights run directly off the battery, the headlight runs off of the stator so don't about that.

Yeah it should be getting between 13 and 14.5 volts to the battery when the engine is revving at 2000rpm

I don't have any way to test the volts so I'm just going to buy a new battery and hope that's the problem. If I buy a battery from a B&M store is it ready to install or do I still have to add the acid and charge it? I ask because I don't have a charger either and would like to do this as inexpensive and turnkey as possible.

You add the acid but it's fully charged already as soon as the acid goes in. I'm not sure how that works but it does.
BTW, a voltage checker is around $8 at Harbor Freight Tools. You set it for 20volts DC and put the red wire on the + and the black on the - It should read 12.5 to 12.8 with the key off and 13-14.5 with the engine revving.

Ok cool. I'll look into that voltage checker. Thanks for the tip.

Got the new Yausa battery and put it in yesterday. It started and ran fine for the first day but this afternoon the scooter had the same troubles again. The troubles are not starting with the electric start and barely starting with the kick start. It takes a lot of kicking to get it going, today it took about 5 minutes of hard kicking and it finally turned over. Also, after it does get going, when I slow down for stop lights or whatever it sometimes loses major power and then stalls out and barely starts until maybe another 5 minutes of kicking if I'm lucky. Once I'm on the road cruising it runs strong, it idles good too when it does start. Any obvious diagnosis based on those symptoms? Starting relay? CDI? Coil? One other quick unrelated question. I replaced the fuel filter today and I'm not sure if I put it in correctly or upside down. Here's a pic of how I placed it. Is this correct?

I can't tell from the picture, but the filter should have an arrow on it, it points the direction of the fuel flow.

I looked for a directional arrow or something like that when I put it on but I didn't see one. Might have had something to do with the gas that shot in my face when removing the old one though I'll check it closer tomorrow. EDIT: After closer inspection I noticed that it did have an "UP" indicator and of course I had it in upside down
