I recently picked up an atv with the 1E40QMB engine. Took lots of google searching to figure out what it was and how to get parts for it. I had a big breakthrough today when I found out about that engine code. Then it lead me here. I'm hoping to gather some performance information here. Are there any quad owners here?
I may be shunned for this, but I also own a Rattler 110cc lol, plus a pretty built pocket bike. Only thing left to do is the carb.
I traded a stock pocket bike for the quad and it currently isn't running. The intake is cracked and the gas tank was missing. The spark also seems weak. I ordered a new intake, gas tank, and coil. Now I wait. Hopefully the boat from china gets a good tailwind for the ride here

I don't own a quad, but I did have a Polaris 90 engine in my scooter. If you keep an eye on eBay probably the easiest jump in performance would be to pick up a 90cc version of this engine. Should be an easy swap. If you don't go that route, a 70cc big bore kit for the existing engine. I've used kaseaparts.com quite a few times and they have been good for having all the small parts. Check them out if you haven't already. Engine parts and performance parts should be able to be sourced from scooter retailers like PFS , ScrappyDogScooters, RacingPlanetUSA, and eBay sellers.

Scrappy dog parts is where I found the best stuff so far. I found them at the same time I found this forum.
I'm right in the middle of a v8 swap in a jeep for a customer, so I'm sure a swap in this quad would be easy enough. I didn't know there was a 90cc version of this engine though.
Looking at this engine, it looks incredibly similar to my rattler 110 engine. I keep wondering if I could put that cylinder on it. If I ever have to take my scooter apart again for any reason, I might give it a shot.

I know there are differences in the Rattler engine and a standard Minarelli/clone, but I can't remember exactly what they are right now. I wanna say at least the exhaust flange is at a different angle, but not 100% on that. Not sure if the stud spacing of the Rattler is the same as the 90cc or the BWS100 engines. The 90cc+ cylinders don't fit in most 50cc cases without clearance work. The Rattler cylinder is meant for a longer stroke, so it would not work well even if it did fit.

My understanding is the rattler exhaust port is clocked weird compared to lots of other things. That would be the least of the issues. I own welders and have made more exhausts than I can remember. I figured the hope of using the 110 cylinder was way too far fetched but at a glance saw lots of similarities.
As for the stroke, isn't there a stroker crank for the 50cc?

There are stroker cranks, but most don't fit the stock 49cc cases without clearance work. 41.4mm cranks should drop in, but the 90cc stuff that's 42-48mm stroke does not.
