Well...today found some motivation to get back to tuning and try to solve the problem of not being able to get it running right.
And yet again no progress. Had a needle with a blunt tip so tried one with a sharp tip...no real difference. Tried different clip positions, no real difference. Went from the 92MJ to a 98MJ just for the f*ck of it...no real difference
Well im back to where i was in the first place...ignition. Im kinda done with trouble shooting without having a new ignition to try or a new rotor/cdi combo. So im callin it done. Im gonna save some money during the winter and buy a innerrotor. I'm pretty sure that will solve 95% of the problems.
Good way to justify for myself to get a HPI ignition I wanted one after all so.....
Oh tomorrow im gonna pick up a Peugeot engine for free for the SV. So i can keep riding during wintertime.

What a great thread. Skipped around. You do nice work.. Really enjoyed the scooter rally/camping trip (thats on my bucket list) those sv sure are kool retro looking.
1: I solved the tuning problems i've had earlier. 2: It was a problem in the ignition, just as i suspected from the start. 3: It was a super easy fix.
I accidentally discovered that the sparkplug cap was bad. Swapped it for another one and all the sputtering and all was gone! So super happy! I can ride again!
The more "techno" we get,the more we overlook the obvious..I remember working for hours on a motorcycle in the back yard, still no start,,then my Mom says "Ya got any gas in the tank?",Looong silence,,it started a few minutes later...
Totally true. I know for a fact that i'll never buy those silicon caps again...just had too much hassle with it and it brings not a single benefit over a normal cap. It's so flexible that its super difficult to click it properly on the plug. And screwing the cap on the plug wire is also a PITA.
Anyway...im most of all glad that i was able to tell the ill effect it had where caused by the ignition. #patshimselfontheback
It ran a little rich so i put the needle clip 2nd leanest position. Ran good, took it for a long drive, no problems whatsoever.
After about 30mns out of nowhere it started sputtering quite bad and there was a 'poof' from the exhaust. It stalled but i was able to start immediatly again. Wouldn't idle and was sputtering super bad, on every throttle position.
It has still good compression but (now, cooled down engine) won't start. Im thinking ignition, broken reed petal or crankseal popped out.
When im back home im gonna find out.
Btw im in the middle of the woods 15kms from home...but i'll be fine
Update...only the sparkplug cap had come off... Jeeeeeeeezzz Man o man I honestly though I already was beyond that point where i need to check sparkplug caps when it won't start....guess not.
Get the NGK plug cap that fits on the big snap on tip. The ones that snap on just the threaded part will always let you down eventually.
Glad it was simple!

Hope that you figured it out before you had to push it 15 kilometers!
Luckily i did! It stopped just next to a cyclers resting place with a table and bench. Laid down there for 30mns and then figured i just might check the sparkplug cap as a last resort....well it worked out

My kymco blows the plug boot off every now and then. Ever since I put the air scoop on and broke out the slats in front of the fan(ram air cooling at speed). I've considered teathering the boot to the cooling shroud with mechanics wire to keep it from falling off while riding.
