I looked on Craigslist and found a dealer in my general area that advertised good prices on GY6 type Scooters. I found Dallas Power Sports.
I liked the fact that they allow you to layaway purchase.
They allow local pick up or shipment but they tell you the local price may vary from the ship price.
All told with tax title and license the out the door price was $300 more than the advertised price. I think half of that was indeed tax and registration.
They warn you that only the engine is covered by the warrant and even then they will charge $50. to service under warranty.
I bought my scooter and got 2300 KM of enjoyment and then got stranded on the side of the road.
I tried all I knew but came to the conclusion that something was going on with the stator and didn't want to go that far into the bike, being only two months old. I took it back to DPS and asked them to fix it for me. They called three days later and said it was ready and the bill would be $440.
I was like ?
I expected $100 or less.
They claimed they replaced the clutch, the stator ((AND magneto)) adjusted the valves and changed the oil. Hum, I only asked for the start issue to be resolved.
After discuss the issue in detail they lowered the bill to $411.
I still think they were at least $211 high, and not convinced they did all the work they claimed to.
On the pro side, the scooter runs very well now. I think however I will be very very desperate to err consider letting them work on the bike again. I will write to TAOTAO and see if they will do anything at all for me. Also from what I have read, the stator and magneto are all one unit and I should not have been charged as though there were two separate parts replaced. Basically it all boils down to warranty, (THERE IS NONE!)
