I weigh 210-220lbs and my area is nothing but hills. Some them almost stall the stock 50's i see running around. I have a big bore piston and cylinder, 72mm i think, lighter weights in my variator, bigger main jet in my otherwise unsealed stock carb ( theres a video in this forum on how to do it ) and removed my snorkle restriction in my airbox. The mods arent that many or expensive, and if your handy with a wrench it will be cheeper for you. And my scooter will pull me up the steepest hills around 30 and still pull. Flat out when i can find a spot i cap at 38 mph ( gps verified) still within the legal limits, and its registered as a 49cc with plates.

I'm 219lbs and I had a 72cc BBK on my 4t, proformence CDI, red hot coil, Kelly pully, 4.5g weights and a dialed in 24mm keihin carb I was doing 40 uphill and I buried the needle many times on flats and downhills... It took about 7-8 seconds to hit 30mph.... Seriously good setup it had... But I decided I needed more power so I put I a 100cc BBK... Now I do 30mph in about 5 seconds... I've done 50 on it for a sec but I'm scared to actually open it up.... I don't want my crankshaft bearings to die lol so I just punch it up to 30 and cruise at 1/4 throttle... Eventually equalizing out at about 40mph... I think I might. Go back to the 72cc just do I can hold her wide open again lol... But for now I got a 2t I picked up for cheap and she's quite the project so my focus is on getting that beast up and running before I shift focus

Wow so many responses and almost everyone being so friendly! This is super refreshing its nice to know that I should be fine on the stock for now. I thought I would be way to heavy to use it at all so I'm glad that I should be ok. Thanks for all the advice and links and whatnot, I'm not terribly handy with a wrench but I'm sure I will learn seriously thanks again everybody.

Does anybody know what the actual weight limit is. I'm sure the motor will go with the weight but I'd be concerned with the suspension and frame. Riding in a straight, smooth line probably not a problem but what if you had to slam on the breaks or had to veer off the road. I'm thinking safety here. I want another person to love scoots too but I don't want you getting hurt or worse.

I think for my type of scooter 130 kgs is max and last time i weighed in i was 130 kgs I have lost some weight recently I have broken 2 seats speeding over speed bumps hes got 100 lb on me he will be faster downhill than me as long as there are no speed bumps

There was a guy in town with a China 4t he went 450 to 500 lb he was so big he took the entire seat and it disappeared up his crack. His legs were bigger than my waist he had trouble getting his feet on the floorboard. Then a little guy would jump on the rack so close to 600 lbs with drum brakes. They road like that for 5 years around town

I'm 300lbs and ride the hell out of my scoots. Can't say what the extra 90 pounds would do. Most small scoots seem to be rated anywhere from 250-300lb for load capacity. Not sure exactly what the weak point is there (frame, suspension, etc...), but I don't think it's tires.
I checked three of my 10" tires. The 90/90-10 Kenda K329 is rated at 416lb max. The Kenda and Zhongya (stock on TaoTao) 3.50x10s both were rated 430lb max. There's more weight on the rear tire on a scoot, but I'm not sure exactly what the distribution is. I think the 12" versions commonly get even higher load ratings.
I will say that stock shocks work OK for me, but aftermarket stiffer shocks are much nicer. I run my tires at 36PSI as recommended for a passenger on many scoots. The weight is hard on seat buckets. Every seat bucket I own is cracked I think. Braking is acceptable to me. Acceleration suffers quite a bit vs an average weight rider.

Sorry for my lack of posting had a really long day at work todah ... I hate retail... Anyway I think, based off of the responses here I am deffinatly getting the cy50-a as my first scooter and I couldn't be more excited! As to the earlier question about big guys liking 50cc scooters, for me its about neccesity I need something for work and don't want to get my motorcycle license... Yet... But I've wanted a scooter for years so this is like a big deal for me lol. I just like the idea of vetting where I want to, when I want to, with the wind in my hair and honestly I'm afraid of the high powered motorcycles. Justmy take on it

there aint nothing wrong with starting out on a smaller bike or a scooter. i got a big bike... it makes me tired. im not even kidding, compared to the scooter its so heavy.. a 6 hour drive on it is exhausting. ive about decided to part her out.

I think my 50cc rig weighs 500# with me on it. I was down to 10MPH indicated on the speedo on a hill today even with a good run at it. I was carrying 35# of wire cable also so make that 535#.
My speedo reads exactly 30MPH when I am actually going 20MPH, checked with one of those roadside police speed meters. So an indicated 10MPH would have been 6.7MPH. I thought I might have to get off and push at one point.
I should get out the bath scale the next time I have it up in the air.
