Hi all!
It's great to be here at 49ccscoot! After lurking about on a few forums I decided to make this my scooter tuning home as i have watched a ton of 90GTvert's (Brent?) videos and also everyone here seems to be quite knowledgable, helpful, and (most importantly!) kinD! It's so nice to see a group of folks like yourselves that have the patience and manners for noobs like me
About a year ago I had some unpaid traffic tickets rear their ugly heads and finally caught up with me resulting in a suspended driver's license. (Someone stole my boat trailer plate and went through numerous toll booths resulting in tickets for me and I stupidly didn't handle the matter until it was too late)
I resorted to my electrical hobby experience (Rc cars etc.) and quickly dove into the deep end of E-bikes and all the modding that comes along with that... Great fun but the cost of good batteries and electronics etc. are very cost-prohibitive. After recently re-gaining my driver license I have joined the world of exploding dinosaur juices and have "Battery Anxiety" no more
I purchased a 2007 Baccio DX50 that wears 2013 Tao Tao EVO150 plastics. After doing some research about which scooters to buy and which scooters to stay from I thought I had found an "Italian made" scooter for $500 with the name Baccio and jumped on the deal. I lol now only about a month later as I have learned soooo much more mainly due to forums like this!
After getting past a few hiccups and bugs I can truly say now that I am a satisfied "china bike" owner.. The forum here and videos have been so much help and I now have the Scooter Tuning Bug!
Six weeks in and this is what I have been through so far...
My main problem that still lingers (I think I have a handle on it but that's still yet to be seen) is D@m# cylinder head nuts keep vibrating loose resulting in low compression and -in the beginning- hard starting which resulted in dead battery a few times and me pushing scoot home once. I now keep my trust 10mm with me to tighten them up but hopefully I'm past that now. I have used blue loctite, different kinds of lock lock washers, etc. etc. I now have them "double nutted" and it seems to be holding tight so far...
In the never-ending quest for more power I have shaved my cylinder head (ghetto drill and spark plug socket on sandpaper and glass style) and used copper spray and annnealed the copper gasket and seemed to have maxed out at 140 psi... (I see a BBK in my future)
I have installed a $99 ebay tuned pipe (I have a (VERY) limited budget so high-end stuff will be few-and-far-between) and am quite happy when it "hits" @ 7500 RPM.
I have installed an 85 main jet and drilled two 1" holes into the stock air box. My latest mod is yellow 1500 clutch springs and that made a HUGE difference in my scooter enjoyment as I am a heavy rider at 260 lbs... Oh yeah and it already had blue racing CDI installed when I bought it. It seems to be in pretty good tune and I doubt I will really be able to squeeze much more performance out of her at 49cc.. 43 mph cruise speed.
As this is my daily driver for now the clutch springs have helped immensely in making me less of a nuisance on the roads with slow take-off but I can already see that I am wanting a BBK very soon.. I will mod with roller weights etc. after that- and will more than likely end up getting my motorcycle endorsement and jump to the bigger boys after that.
Sorry for the long introduction guys (and gals) but now you know a little about me and I am looking forward to interacting on the forums in my scooter journeys! So far most of my questions have already been answered and its nice to have all this knowledge at my fingertips so I haven't really needed to post...
Thanks again for all the grat knowledge! See ya all around!
