Started to take dudes bike back last night. Realized he had no tail lights, brake lights or turn signals. Well fuck.
So today I traced the wires, and discovered the PO had butchered the harness in such a way that the ground tab for the light sockets was getting 12v positive at all times. Not when the engine was running or the key on, but all. The. Time....whoa. Ten minutes some tape wire nuts and dummy light, he has his bike back. Most if yesterday was lost to rain, so we talked and decided to split the $50 difference....yay me.

Blew my top end today after hitting 54mph downhill, clouds of smoke, power quickly went away and bogged to a stop. Still turns over freely but won't start. Getting fuel and spark so I am guessing it's the exhaust valve. Already ordered a new engine, nothing special same cc same setup, looks plug and play. Am going to keep it legal for now. I want to rebuild this one as well maybe soup it up a lil.

Peeked in the shed to make sure it was still there with a promise to ride next weekend. My job is keeping me busy right now. The traffic is horrendous in my neighborhood, hence the rerouting of 421. Looking forward to a ride...

Well, I opened her up and found the head gasket blew. I'm guessing the loss of power is due to that and the material leaving the gap slowly reduced compressione but not sure it was the culprit for the smoke prior to the failure. Upon pulling the sleeve I noticed all the grooves were lined up on the rings, maybe that let some by.

Well hell. The guy that I rebuilt the 150 for showed up today with an 07 Honda 80 something or another. Bad base, head, and valve covet gaskets. Bad intake gasket, leaking oil from every possible orifice. I feel like I should shoot it to release its suffering.
There was a can of ether in the front compartment, so that's a baf sign. Pulled the carb shot some ether into the intake and tried to start it. Not even close. Its got 48 psi compression so I figure a co olete tear down and rebuild. Nope.... Owner is flat ass broke, and begged me to hill billy engineer it back to running as its his only mode of transport. The friend with the 150 has agreed to pay for my time and matetials, so long as I can get it going before Monday, and don't have to order anything.
Got it tore down, and the rings/piston look good, valves are sealed right. Idk, I'll give it some gaskets, some love, and try again. Oh well. Gibes me something to do on my down time ...

I'd LOVE to find the genius engineer at Honda that developed this shitty 80 and kick him in the balls. Hard. Like really hard. The carb is retarded difficult to mount/remove with the engine in the bike, the exhaust wraps around the damn head...this thing is just wrong....ugh, and of course it doesn't share a common bore with anything I have access to in person so I have to wait a couooe weeks for damned rings. At least the engine goes in/ comes out with two bolts. That's this things only redeemable quality...and its not even a great thing....

Swapped the clutch at Lowe's cause the primary one is stuck and not expanding. Many Lyfts later and missing work.... 😑
