I may have wheels that may fit your scoot, that madass is awesome. The original rim size on a Vespa ET-2 is 10”. What I would like to look into down the road is installing 12” rims. However, my Et-2 uses a “short case” and I do not know the clearances I would have to fit the larger dia rim. I don’t think I am going to get involved in trying to determine this during this build – maybe something for a later prject. Thank you, Larry

Engine Stuff Got all the modification done to my Harbor Freights Sandblasting cabinet done - so it is back in service. As most stuff from Harbor Freights it was cheap but leaked sand/dust from every joint – took it apart and resealed every joint and bolt.
First project for the blaster was sandblasting my ET-2’s engine case. I think it did a good job.
Before………………………
After………..
I used Gorilla Duct Tape to mask off the large areas and plumber’s putty on the small holes where I did not want to sandblast. Used a bunch of metric in the threaded holes.
The Gorilla tape was a real pain to get on and cut out, but it sure stood up to the blasting media – seemed to work better than the plumber’s putty.
I used Harbor Freight Black Aluminum Oxide Blast Media. The surface after blasting was dull – tested a fine grade fiber conditioning disc on the case – brought it up to a quick shine. However, it would be a lot of work to do the whole case and there would areas that the disc could not reach. I will try it on the CVT cover.
I have about 35ft of 3ft wide work bench area – that’s about 102 sq ft. With all that space you would think I could find a square foot of clear area – stuff/junk everywhere –guess I am not a very organized bench worker.
Thanks for viewing, Larry

Nice work. I've been wanting to do the same to my cases but my compressor isn't big enough to support a blaster. Never enough space!

Those cases have come up nice. They get so dirty on the road, no matter how much they are cleaned.

Could resist working on the CVT cover. Originally it was powder coated gray. The salt air and water got under the powder coating and badly corroded the aluminum. I used the same Black Aluminum Oxide Blast Media that I used on the engine case – to strip off the powder coating.
I sanded the cover down starting with 500 grit wet/dry sandpaper – moving to finer paper – finished it with 1200 grit wet/dry paper. – used the same fine grade fiber disc. Few hours work and I had a somewhat shiny cover. Got some Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish - maybe it will finish a consistent shine.
The two holes near the Piaggio logo were done by me. I wanted to replace the small case bearing and could not get a bearing puller to fit. So I drilled a couple of holes in the case and used a punch to drive it out. After doing so, I check 49ccScoot – and Brent had a better solution - 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/362

Shortly after my July, 2014 posts to 49ccScoot, medical issues popped up again and I went down again. My Vespa ET-2 project got put on hold as my focus shifted to health issues. Early in 2015 I had a pacemaker installed - things started improving. In June of 2015 I was walking with ankle braces. Over the next six months the braces came off and everything seems to be working. So with my body working (not sure about my head yet) it just seemed appropriate to start working on my scooter.
During this downtime, I shutdown my business and closed my shop. So all my equipment including my scooter parts are in storage. I think for the most part all the scooter stuff survived.
In an earlier post I mentioned that I had sent the body of the ET-2 out to be sandblasted. That did happen before I crashed. After it was sandblasted it when into another shop to have the bodywork done. It was in that shop for about a year - during that time no work was done. As soon as I was up an functioning again I got it back - covered in rust.
Currently, East Coast Powder Coating has the body they are going to re-sandblast it, do the body work and powder coat it - YELLOW. The sandblasting, bodywork, and powder coating is going to cost around $1500.
East Coast did the original sandblasting and powder coated the ET-2's wheels (YELLOW) for about $110.
Recently, I brought the front fork, wheel hub, brake hub, engine case and CVT cover over to East Coast be cleaned up and powder coated. The lower portion of the front fork along with the wheel hub will be coated yellow. The brake hub, engine case and CVT cover will be coated candy apple red. Haven't got pricing for this work yet.
I have bought the majority of the nuts, bolts, circle clips and bearings for the ET-2's Front Suspension & Steering system. About the only major non-stock thing included as part of the suspension system that I got was the BITUBO GAV Sport Shock Absorber. I also, ordered in a couple of things for the Front Brakes - items like the SIP Performance brake caliper and Galfer brake pads, a Galfer Wave brake disc, and HEL brake lines. Except for the HEL brake lines, all of the stuff was order from SIP in Landsberg, Germany. They have great prices, a lot of ET-2 stock, and fast-low cost shipping. I placed the order on 1/23/16 and it arrived on 1/28/16 @ $25 shipping cost. The only thing on back order was the SIP performance brake caliper.
The HEL front brake line was ordered from Moto-heaven (www.helusa.com). You give them the length of line you need and the style of Banjos on each end. From that information, they build a PVC covered braided stainless steel hose with stainless steel banjos. The price was about $20 less than an OEM hose. And the delivery was very quick.
I am working on a order for the Rear Suspension & Brakes now.
Over the next few weeks I hope to clear an area in my existing storage for a small shop for just the scooter. And, un-box all the containers of parts - see what was lost and figure out where I stand on the project. Hopefully, the majority of the new engine, CVT, and gearbox parts made it to this new location.
I have most every thing I have done on my ET-2 project stored on my PC but the documentation on 49ccScoot website has been my best source for establishing the direction I was going on the project. Just wished I had posted all the part list, suppliers, and cost on the site.
Anyway, that's where I am at - looking back to June 2014 moving ahead again. Thank you, Larry

My ET2 Build Project: A Restart
Sorry for the previous post of the same thing. Been away so long forgot how to use Photobucket and 49ccScoot. The way things have been going with me it looks like I will be around to finish my ET2 - Build. At least health wise not to sure about money wise - living a fixed income life - SUCKS. And, I still have some high dollar parts to buy for this project.
Some progress: It has been slow but it need to be that way and it certainly was East Coast Powder Coating's I kept tell them that I was in any kind of hurry.
They went ahead and did my wheels so I could get a better handle on the YELLOW color that was going to be used on the body - at the time I was working on developing the art work that I planning on having air brushed on my scooter. The back ground of the art work would be the YELLOW powder coating. All three pieces of art were heavy into fire and ice colors - didn't know how it would work with a YELLOW background.
The color is "Corvette Yellow".
Before I got the wheels back, I did a color illustration of my ET2 using what I thought "Corvette Yellow" would look like. I wanted to get an idea of what the chrome tecnigas next R exhaust pipe & the "Grim Reaper" would work with the YELLOW. I also wanted to see how much of the Polini Torsen WD would be visible.
The tecnigas I have is full chrome so this is not the exact exhaust. Based on the illustration, the chrome pipe is almost invisible against the yellow background and the stabilizer is just about lost behind the next R.
All the airbrushing you see in the illustration is on a "financial" hold unless I get the nerve to do it myself or come into some extra money. I have never painted with urethane airbrush paint and really don't want to start using it now. If I did get the nerve, it would have to be done with a water based paint like Auto-Air.
I got a couple of photos of "Corvette Yellow" Corvettes with a Yahoo search - I compared that yellow with the yellow on my scooter drawing - close but not a match. And, my choice of yellow used in the illustration was no where close to the "Corvette Yellow".
During my third or fourth mid-life crises I bought a restored 1976 Silver Corvette Stingray. That silver matched the original silver of my ET2. In the 60s just out of boot camp, I bought a Jet Black 1959 MGA - had it painted "Porsche Yellow". It was a dead matched for my ET2's "Corvette Yellow" wheels. I was tired of silver things, my truck is big and black, my scooter is small and I wanted a bright color - I wanted a bright yellow scooter - the "Corvette Yellow" is deeper and not as bright but I am OK with it or just maybe I am to cheap to spend another $120 to make my wheels bright.
Anyway, the re-start of my ET2 re-build project has been slow but some headway has been made.
Thank you for looking, Larry
