So i got a Kawasaki KLR650 a while ago its a 2002 it starts easy and appears to go well but the oil needs changing. The electric fan on the radiator goes on automatically but all the gauges are missing. I turned the rectifier upside down from stock to stop water getting into the plug. The clutch lever was broken so i changed it for a more robust lever but the the old lever is still connected by 3 wires and i am not sure what they do, and it starts with the side stand down. It was hard getting the air box out found lots of sand in it there is a stainless gauze that stops sand getting in the carb. Today i put a plastic wrap made from an oil bottle around the oil pipe that goes to the head as it goes close to the exhaust. If the plastic melts back to the drawing board, if it dont hopefully the oil will be cooler when it gets to the head.

yay started the KLR first time since i put my plastic heat shield on the oil feed pipe to the head. The fan on the radiator stayed on for shorter periods and the plastic seemed fine and only warm I intend to put some cooling device on the exhaust close to the head. Will get pics soon

I like it. I would put a smaller tyre on the front though. Café racers are very popular now.

On the KLR650 forum they warn against lowering the front as it alters the rake and makes it liable to the wobbles and crashing so you would have to put a smaller wheel on the back too and alter the sprockets. This is low budget may involve dreaming

I went from the stock 130 rear tire to a 140. I'd highly recommend that for tire lifespan. You have to put a few washers behind the exhaust bolt to clear the tire.
