Just to start this out. Bought a new carb 1 mouth ago. Have been riding it around town with no problems, starts great, smooth excelleration to 40 miles per hour. Now the problem. If I go on a long run at 35 mph and holed it there I get about 5 miles and it just gives me the berrrrow noise as I call it then dies. What 5 or 10 mins good to go for a few miles.
As for what I have done so far. Changed the air filter. Drilled a hole in fuel cap to make sure it was not vapper locking in tank. Replaced the fuel filter. Checked that the 2 stoke oil was being consumed, there is a noticeable level drop in oil tank. And a note on the plug that I took out and replaced just to elmenat that it had a dark brown coating on white area of plug.
Now from what I have read her on the site I may need to jet the carb up or change the needle setting but not sure which is correct.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Well it took some work but after a 70cc big bore kit I have it running but only with the muffler off. Will now have to buy one of those.

Welcome to the forum.
Where is 35MPH in throttle position? 3/4 to wide open, try a main jet larger. Below 3/4, try a richer needle setting (moving the clip down).

Yes it is 3\4 open so will take your advice on the jet. Will have to order some. This is a stock carb so what is the next size up. Thanks for your information, it cleared up for sure were I needed to start.
I have a few read a lot of good post here that is why I joined here.

Not all stock carbs are jetted the same so your best bet is to check before you order. PFS sells a jet kit that has from 70-115 mains which covers most carbs.

OK a update. Was driving yesterday when the scooter lost power and died. Would not restart. Pulled the plug and checked it was a nice light brown in color. Put my finger in plug hole and hit the starter. It did not push hard against my finger and just a little air came out around my finger. I thing I my have burnt out the rings. Have been checking online for rebuild kit. I have noticed that I will have to take it apart to find out if I need a 10 mm or a12 mm wrist pin.
Or should I do other checks first.

Change in update. Was reading some post so checked spark plug for spark. No spark. From when I use to work on cars a lot I may have a coil that was getting hot and stopped working but would cool down and work again. Not this time is just gave up the ghost.
Thanks for any advice.

Look for loose wires/bad connections. Unplug the stator from the harness and check AC volts while the engine is cranked over. The pickup wire (often blue/white) should be somewhere near 0.5VAC. The power wire to the CDI (often black/red or red/black) should be 50VAC+. I forget the numbers for the coil, but there are service manuals posted (see signature) that tell primary and secondary resistance figures. CDI needs to be swapped to check.

I stick with stock usually. Hard to know what you're actually getting with aftermarket ones.

Had a min or two so checked the volt coming to cdi had a low volt of about .5 to 1 volt on other wire a good 50 plus. So will order cdi and go from there. Is there a chance that the during on longer rides could of been the cdi going out.

I suppose it could be. Could be two separate issues.

OK got the new cdi in the mail. Put it on no luck. So rechecked evey thing to do with firing and found that when I hold the plug on the neg post of battery both cdi's work. Decided to go to local auto zone and rent a combustion gage. Found that I had zero compresstion. So looked at some kit on the web found one to take my 49cc to 71cc. Not sure if this the right course.
