Hello All!
i have recently bought a tao tao 50 ATM50a1 I think and a tao tao VIP 50. I will be asking questions soon because the VIP is running 6-9 miles slower than the atm50 (GPS) and used a whole tank of gas on a 30 mile trip with the other only using 1/4 tank. Been reading but haven't run across anything to help yet but I am sure something will surface. I am in southern Indiana and have had fun the first 80 miles but hope I can figure out the fixes to the VIP! Thanks for such a wonderful site!!
cheers!

Welcome! Check the air filter on the VIP. If it's clogged it would have less power and mpg. It could be running rich also. Take a look at the spark plug.

As said above check that air filter and pull the plug to see if it's black should be a coffee brownish color, check the tech section for lots of info on motor troubleshooting. Plus give us info on what engines you have 2T or 4T engine numbers are by stand mount ask questions you will get answers.

Those should both be 139QMB four-stroke powered, so in good working order they should perform in a similar fashion and get similar fuel economy. In addition to what's mentioned already, check the float height and jetting in the carb of the one that's not doing as well.

Thanks for the Welcome! I took the restrictor out of the air intake and the foam seems ok. I did pull the plug and it is BLACK not wet tho. I will go get an NGK to put back in tho and start their. When I get that in I will see about tuning the Carb before breaking into it. I believe that if I can improve it enough to satisfy for the time being I will either work over the carb or get one of the aftermarket carbs. I will let you all know how the plug change goes! Wish me luck.
Cheers!

I put the new NGK plug in and it seems about the same. I didn't have time today to get unto the carb as I know I will have to but a question. Would the loss in top speed and slight acceleration speed be possibly due to the hose from the air box to the back of the carb being really really loose cause a potential issue with both the speed and possibly the difference in the MPG of the 2 scoots? It is raining so I can't go for another test drive. Again I thank you all for the warm welcome and the advice!!!
Cheers!

Loose hose will cause more air to get in and would cause a lean mixture if I got it correct, check all hoses port plugs and vacuum lines. Some have been removing the vacuum fuel petcock and replacing it with a manual one which removes a possible vacuum leak also if the diaphragm inside the valves starts leaking it could leak into the manifold and down into the case. Just a few more things to think about.

Welcome to the forum. Another thing to check might be the belt and rollers. This might affect your speed a bit, but not the mpg issue too much.
