Hello Guys, I'm Calum and I have been looking on this forum for a while now and decided that I should become a member! I currently own a Peugeot Speedfight 2 50cc , 2stroke ,57 plate. The only modifications it has is a Leo Vince TT exhaust which have it that extra edge over the original pipe in both acceleration and top speed! however... since purchasing the bike I have had constant problems with being able to start it, in slightly cool weather or if it is wet at all outside, meaning that the electric start is useless and it takes 30++ kicks (without flooding- if that is possible on a 2 stroke)to get it going. Due to this the kickstart lever has become misplaced and occasionally jams when being pushed. As far as I know I have either replaced or a high standard of the vital elements to being able to start your scooter- compression, spark etc. I would greatly appreciate an insight into a solution to the starting problems and I am sure that I will be able to offer the same in return! many thanks, Calum T. Current replacements to moped: carburetor oil/ fuel filter crank seals which blew a number of times during repair clutch/ torque driver or adjuster cylinder/piston spark plug

Welcome to the forum Calum!
Does it run well after it's started? Are you having to hold the throttle wide open to get it going? Have you checked out the reed valves?

Hello mate,
It runs perfectly once I finally get it started (without throttle) just leave it a couple minutes to run and warm up. I have not checked the reed valve as I am not entirely sure on what to look for haha!
many thanks

You'd want to make sure there's no damage to the reeds. Hold them up to light and hopefully you won't see light coming through around the edges. If so, sometimes you can flip the reeds on the block and that's enough to get a good seal.

Can't see any light coming through around the edges , do you think that it could be the choke as it is very temperamental to start?

Not sure what kind of choke/enricher that has, but if it's an electric automatic enricher then you could make sure it's retracted to allow fuel flow past it when cold. I just assumed it was replaced as part of the carb.
