One of the best upgrades I did was to get rid of the stock tires and put on Michelin Power Pure Scs. I would do that as one of my first mods on any future scoots.

How often do you guys get new tires on your 50cc 4 stroke scooters? Noticing spots of wear after 5,000 miles On a big motorcycle, if you get 10,000 miles out of a back tire, you're doing good. 15k or so on a front tire, less on both if you ride hard/fast/lots of twisties. These scooter tires are much smaller/more revolutions per mile. I expect to get a fair bit less than 10k. Back tires will wear faster than front tires. If your tire is cupping/scalloping (google that if needed) that is an indicator that the tire is overloaded/undersized for the job its doing (or possibly under inflated) and a bit larger of a tire will usually clear it up. Some styles of tread will cup more than others (Kenda K413 Scooter Tires as an example, i would expect those tires to be more prone to cupping than the shinkos, or other style kendas.) 5000 miles isn't so bad really. if your tires are both the same size and you have the means, you can rotate them before the back one gets too bad, once its up front it will wear a lot less than the back one.

I'm happy if I get a couple thousand out of rear tires before debris from riding the shoulder of the road busts them. Front tires tend to last me a lot of miles. I'm not even sure on the exact mileage, but the front tire on one of my scoots has been on for 4 or more rear tires and still looks good. Your tires should have tread wear indicators in them. If you look in the tread near the center of the tire, you should see little lines of rubber going through the grooves in spots. When those are level with the top of the tread, it's time to replace them. Sometimes tires have "TWI" ont he sidewall beside the contact area or on the very edge of the contact area. That indicates where a tread wear indicator is supposed to be in the center. If you need to use TWI markings to hunt them down, it's probably time to replace the tire. Another trick is to stick a penny into the tread with Lincoln's head aimed down into the tread. More on that HERE.
