I need help. I sold my Malaguti but it came back to haunt me. I am trying to fix it for the guy I sold it to. After cleaning the carb I just decided to buy a replacement. I purchased a copy of the Dellorto that is used often on the Malaguti. I was under the impression that the original was a 17.5mm but after reloading the service manual I see the carburetor for it seems to be a 12mm. I have the 17.5mm already shipped. The mm size is in reference to the manifold size is it not?

17.5mm is the bore of the carb, not a measuremet of the OD where it fits into the intake.

Oh good! So the increased capacity of a new manifold would simply be required to match the increased capacity of the carb. I get it. Thanks for that. Well even though I no longer own the Maliguti it will be interesting to see if this carb makes a difference in the performance.

With the new carb the cable needs to come out of the casing about a half inch more than it does. The adjustments at throttle and carb are adjusted all the way in and it is still not reaching to install. Is it possible to cut the casing without damaging the cable inside?

Yes, just be very careful. I use a dremel with a cutting disc or a big cut off wheel and go really slow. Also, some cables are setup with threads on both ends that may screw up what you are trying to do and make the cable unusable, so make very certain you are cutting what you need to make it work before you begin.

I am assisting the new owner of the scooter, so if he is unable to solve his cable problem I will attempt to cut this casing. I have seen that some of these cables have adjusters in the middle of them. I did not have the cowling off of the scooter to see if one was located there. Have you seen this before?

The guy got the cable hooked up by removing some casing and now the scooter is doing about 50mph on the flat.

I bet!!! A 12mm carb has to be one heck of a restriction!!!

Yes and not only that I have told the guy there is an air box restrictor yet to remove. the new 17.5mm carb could use the unrestricted manifold added and there is still the expansion canister restriction on the exhaust pipe. These are all easy things to deal with and I am sure once they are the scooter will be pretty darn fast.
