I just bought a jalon jl50qt-16 moped with a 1e41qmb engine and have had it running it acts like it would run good but it is pushing a lot of black oil out the exhaust pipe so i suspected the crank seal so i took the clutch cover off and removed all gears to look at a crank seal and all i see it a open bearing on the crankshaft no seal but this is my first time working on one of these but i have worked on plenty of motorcycles im just not sure there is supposed to be a seal there or if its suppused to be a sealed bearing or what any help would be appreciated thanks

:welcome: There should be seals there. Not sure where to get them though. This place is one of the better places to get parts for that motor that I know of, and they are out of stock... scootusa.com/405.htm

You know 2 stokes burn oil out the pipe right with gas. There is no oil to change like a 4 stroke motorcycle. The oil pump could be turn up to far.

yea i know there not like a 4 stroke and i havent yet eliminated the pump from being the problem i just started digging into this it belonged to my neighbor and i helped him with it a while back when we had it running it was litteraly making a puddle of black oil under the end of the exhaust pipe thats why i went right after the crank seal figuring it was bad and pulling gear oil but to my suprise when i got to the crank and pulled the clutch all that is there is a bearing and never working on one of these i dont know if theres supposed to be one there or not. If there is supposed to be one it either must be very thin as there isnt much shaft left between bearing and clutch or it is a sealed crank bearing ?? I just went and looked at the oil pump and i dont see any adjustment for it unless you have to tear it apart to get at it all i see is what i think is a bleeder screw.Once i know for sure the crank seal is right i will go to the 2 cycle system if the problem still exsist thanks

Unless you can see a seal on the bearing, it's not a sealed bearing. It's gotta be open on the engine side at least, so it can get oil. It should be running pretty rough from not sealing the crankcase I'd think. Besided that, those motors use oil in their transmissions, so if it's not sealed it might suck up tranny oil.
Pics would be great if you could post any. I've never really messed with the 1E41QMBs.

i tried 3 times to add pics but for some reason it not going threw there is no seal on the bearing i can see the actual ball bearings in the bearing but i have seen some sealed bearings for sale for these and as far as it oiling the bearing i am thinking it should get the oil from the 2 cycle oil crankcase side not the gear oil or am i wrong about that im just not sure on these i have worked on motorcycles ect.. for a while but this is my 1st time messing with these and i dont have a book to show me what goes where so thanks for all the info your sharing it is a big help

Yeah, that's what I was tryint ot say... the crankcase should be sealed off. The bearings are lubricated by 2T oil. All of the oil for the transmission on that model should stay in the transmission.Otherwise you'll burn it up in the engine, causing poor performance as well as the transmission running dry.
