Hi folks,
Location: Bowling Green, KY
I was initially led to this forum by watching Brent's well done instructional videos on youtube - (and having worked in the tech side of radio and TV broadcasting for 28 years, I've seen a bunch of good and bad productions) Good camera work, good narration and audio, and good editing. Learned a bunch.
25 years ago I used to ride a scooter and motorcycle, but got busy with career and life ... so this old fart buys a Tao Tao Powermax 150 crated, and does the PDI on it, finding 2 threaded holes which needed re-tapping, several loose fasteners, and a loose vac line. Replaced all fuel lines with the good thick ones, installed manual fuel cutoff valve and better filter, and removed the tank vent crap, replacing with just a small filter. Installed a new spark plug, and added anti-seize to the threads of it and the exhaust flange studs. The most difficult thing was struggling with getting those !#*&!!! plastic tabs in their slots.
Started up, and ran it up and down the long driveway (while waiting for title to arrive) and it ran fine until it started acting like it was stuck in hi gear - no takeoff torque at all.
So I remove the cvt cover and noticed the belt is deep into the rear pulley. Remove the clutch and rear pulley, and see it appears to be gunked up with wax grease. Cleaned all except the needle bearings, added some fresh grease and re-assembled. The installed belt is a 835 ? I thought with 12 inch wheels it should be bigger?
After re-assembly, all seems to be well.
Finally got my plate today after three trips and almost four hours at our DMV. Even if you have a title and a bill of sale, no-go. Gotta have a "MSRP" statement. "Sir, it's usually stuck to the window." Yeah, OK.
Without that, gotta get a form filled out from the dealer and notarized. Fortunately was able to do that by fax...
Rode my first 15 miles today and it's a bunch of fun. Gotta be careful though. Years ago I spilled in gravel at 55 wearing a helmet, shorts, and flip-flops. Still, I worry more about other cars than spilling ...
