well okay i made some progress with my carb. i can confirm the float does and is working. ive got it tuned so it runs terribly can probably hit 5 mph max, very bogged down sounding, but it does not kill after 200 feet anymore.
i have the idle screw out 3 1/2 turns, and the mix screw out 1/8 of a turn.
im going to mess with it some more to see if i can get it running half way decent with out killing after riding.

Have you thoroughly cleaned the carb? Sounds like a flow problem. Either the float valve sticking or clogged or farther upstream. Clogged petcock, fuel filter, something like that. It runs nice until it empties the fuel bowl then dies until the bowl has time to refill. literally just had this problem on my scooter. Start by check your flow through the fuel line. Disconnect it from the carb and watch the flow into a gas can or cup. If thats good, check your float and float valve. Be sure the float sits level when the carb body is held staight upside down. Then hook up the fuel line and check the flow through the needle valve. If it drips, not trickles, your valve isn't releasing enough. If you close the float and you still get fuel coming through, then its not sealing shut and flooding the carb/engine. going to try this tomorrow

You need to stick a plug DOWN into the hole to shut off the choke circuit's fuel. Some kind of rubber cylinder maybe? Hack it perma-shut then use starter fluid if you have to.. or just adjust your idle circuit on the rich side and you probably wont even need starter fluid. Here is a pic of the "peanut bore" Keihin PD. Its like a 22x28 dual bore, strange shape bore. I've heard that this type of bore shape has good response from some of the 4t pit bike customers. 22mm throttle response with the extra flow of like a 26mm, but not sure how well it is able to control mixture wide open. It is 49mm bolt spacing. okay i plugged the gas tube and then plugged the choke hole. got it idling good, then i went for a ride, and same thing, i ride for like 100-150 feet, and then it bogs down and dies completely. just trying random stuff, i tried it again, unhooked the vacume tube and it ran very nice for like 200-250 feet, and then died completely and i couldnt get it started and had to walk it back. is this a float issue? strange thing is, it ran great for a day or so, and next morning its doing this. errg.

Hope fully i can tune it with the hole plugged. as of now, when i plug it, the bike just shuts off (though i usually plug it initially when i start it, then have to let go or it dies). ill give it a shot when i get home. thanks for all the help guys. ill keep you posted.

thanks for all the replies! here are some pics off the bat. as you can see, I HAVE NO CHOKE. and when i plug it, the bike dies. any tips on this. could this be why after a minute ride it dies. i messed with the float last night, and cleaned it all out with carb cleaner, it idled good, but when i went to ride, after about 45 seconds-1 minute it would bog down at full throttle and start releasing smoke out of the exhaust, and then die on idle when i stopped. does this mean im getting to much fuel? i will do the check atariguyfc recomended with the fuell line in with the float apart *I would have replied earlier but the internet at my place went out all day. ill take some pics of the inside of the carb once im off work, thanks again guys, i'm definitely on the right track i believe*

Hi, i recently got a 1984 honda aero. i got it runing well, then the next morning i go to start it and nothing. i have spark, getting fuel and have compression, but im pretty sure im getting to much fuel. the bystarter is completely broken off, and is just a hole. i can get it to run sometimes, i usually have to plug the choke hole with my finger to get it to start up, and when i do it idles rough, and eventually slows down and dies. sometimes i can get it to idle decent, then i go for a 200 foot ride, with good acceleration, and it feels great. but then after 200 ft or so it bogs down and wont idle and dies. reason i think its a fuel issue is because when its idling bad, if i unscrew the float bowl and drain out the gas, it begins to run/idle better and faster. could it be related to the float? im wondering if anyone knows a completely compatible/ including the throttle cable being compatible, carb i could replace the stock one with. i know the intake side bolts are 48mm apart, and the hole is 22mm. i have a carb that will bolt up, but the throttle slide doesnt go all the way down into the carb, i need to cut a small piece of the plastic on the cable so the cable goes down further i think ( if that will work please let me know) would love any suggestions on getting it running good again. im not even 100% sure its the carb. thanks!
