Flip #12- 2006 Daelim Cordi $275. A 2T DIO Clone!!

Well, I've hit a dozen!

Dang. The seller was too quick and deleted his Craigslist ad before I could grab a screenshot.

I originally planned to buy this scoot this past weekend as flip#11, but the seller was being flaky and we never could set a time for come look at it so I moved on. Luckily I moved fast enough on Flip #11 and this scoot was still available.

  I left my house this evening with the Flip #11 4t retro scoot in the back of my van and delivered it to the buyer at a trailer on a dirt road. I left straight from there to a beautiful gated community with a security gaurd on duty who said "Oh yes, he is expecting you" when I gave my name and who I was there to see! Hehe interesting trip. The seller turned out to be a pretty nice guy. I maybe he missed his meds last weekend and was being flaky haha. 
 This scoot is in excellent condition and just like his CL ad stated, he explained to me that the scoot did run great but it's been sitting for a few months now and when he tries to start it, it just kinda sputters for a minute and dies. Sounds like an easy carb/fuel related fix and I might have another $0 quick flip on my hands!




Now, this scoot is actually on my short list of "possible keepers" for one specific reason: It's the Honda DIO engine! Yep, the 90 mph DIO engine from that infamous Hawaiian "Fast sleeper scoots" youtube video! Well- actually I should clarify; from what I understand and from the very limited info I can find on this scoot is that the engine is a Honda DIO clone. Every scoot parts store I see shows this Daelim Cordi engine to use the exact parts the Dio does- from exhaust to crankshaft it's an exact copy. I know there are different variations or whatever of the Dio like A16f, A18 or whatever and I'm still quite foggy on that whole issue. Maybe someone out there can clarify the different Dio engines? birdman?? All I know is I've been wanting to get my hands on one of these!



Unfortunately, I won't be keeping this one as I have other plans.. (Probably #1 on my keeper list is available RIGHT NOW on my local CL for a crazy price!!- I almost don't want to say what it is for fear that someone else will swoop in on it...) So here's the deal: I called (emailed) on that #1 keeper on CL, but it was right before I was heading out the door and I already had some pretty complex plans so I didn't want to ditch them, but the seller of "Keeper #1" said he didn't bring it home tonight so I couldn't have bought it tonight anyway- it's also quite far away- but if I can flip this one fast enough and that "keeper" is still available- well, I'm jumping on it! Shoot- I might beg, borrow, or steal the $$ for it, IDK. The clock is ticking already and my holy grail scooter is out there waiting for me- RIGHT NOW!

This thing really is in like new condition- except for a little dust. Here's the only thing that's wrong with it: 



The oil cap is broken. The guy admitted that he's not handy at all and just put some tin foil over it to keep it from splashing lol.

  Holy Cow. It just doesn't get much cleaner than this. It looks like I'm looking a brand new scooter engine... wow.



I'm doing my initial poking around and the body panels are really difficult to get off. Everything is brand new looking! The plug looks pretty nasty. It has a strange odor to it. I think it may just have bad gas in it...

Ya my Roketa AIR R50 had that on it too...

The DIO engine we get here is only the AF16. AF16 and and AF18 parts are interchangeable, except when running an AF18 cylinder you need an AF18 exhaust and visa versa. Theres also the AF05 engines on the older Elites and sprees, There are 2 versions of the AF05 one variated (Elites) the other unvariated (spree).. The variated AF05's use the same CVT parts as the AF16,which use GY6 50 variators, rollers, and torque springs. the non variated AF05 CVT is odd ball and it stinks. What you have looks like an AF16 but IDK anything about Daelim.. Never even seen one

Should be a lucritave flip on that Cordi. A good Daelim keeper would be a 100cc 2t Delfino. They run a solid 55+ in stock form and are pretty quick.

I'd like to come across a Delfino! What do you think a good retail price on this would be Stepthru? I sell them cheap so they go fast but was thinking $650? It's like brand new....
  Another issue is that dang "#1 keeper" scoot that's for sale right now. I won't have the $$ to buy it until next week, and it'll probably be gone, so I might get desperate and sell this cheap and fast just so I can get the "#1 Keeper"

This thing had old bad fuel in it. It's hard to describe the smell- maybe 'sweet'? IDK it's hard to describe but definitely smells different than good fuel. I pulled the gas tank off and emptied it out. The inside isn't too awfully bad so I didn't bother cleaning it. I installed new fuel line and a new inline filter and cleaned out the carb real good. Wow this carb is tiny! Looks like 12mm as far as I can tell...



The inside of the carb and the jets were gummed up real bad. I'm shocked that the guy could even get it to stutter. 



I filled the bowl with muriatic acid and put the main jet in there too for about 30 mins to let it work it's magic. Cleaning the inside of the main jet with strands from a wire brush it felt sticky and gummy- like when you scrape the resin from a-- uhum... *tobacco* pipe. You know what I'm talking about! It's all cleaned out now and the scoot is running but I'm still fiddling with the carb.



This engine seems to be quite restricted. First, by that tiny carb, then the exhaust manifold is teeny tiny. It looks like a 4t exhaust!



I'll get it running as good as possible stock and see how fast it is. If it seems really restricted I'll dig a little deeper into the exhaust and intake etc. and look for restrictions... If I'm feeling really froggy I might even cut that extra tube that comes off the side of the exhaust and eliminate the emissions device that Fox pointed out.



I read somewhere on the net while doing research on the Cordi about a guy who said these are everywhere overseas and quite fast and nicely constructed. He said he rode one here in the US and it wasn't nearly as fast... I'm sure this little carb and exhaust are really choking the potential of this 49cc 2t...

The battery is stone dead and my "smart charger" won't even recognize that the clamps are connected. I have a manual charger for instances like this and I'm charging the battery as we speak. It might be dry and with a little luck I can bring it back to life with distilled water in each cell..

I've never seen that extension/second pipe on an AF16/18 engine. But top speed being right around 70KPH(44MPH) should be easy with bursts over 75KPH(46MPH) doable even on the Kymco clones(Super 9/8)

I just took it out for a speed test run with GPS. Topped out at 30mph on the nose. Surprisingly, the speedo reads 30mph also. I'd bet it's CVT restricted somehow to be that exact at 30mph. I'll be taking a look soon...

  I fiddle farted with the carb for over an hour but she still just wouldn't idle right- if at all. I came to the conclusion that I must not have gotten the idle jet clear when I cleaned the carb. Sure enough when I opened the carb back up it was still clogged. I used a wire brush strand and a piece of welding wire to no avail and I finally made a home-made "power blaster" that got the jet clean!

 

I secured the tube from a can of carb cleaner to the jet with some hoses and zip ties. When I started to spray, the hose actually bulged out for a second, then- boom! It blasted it out! Sweet! Starts and idles perfectly now. Purring like a kitten.
