that arrow on the top sort of gets, covered, with black soot after a little bit of riding, that points towards the exhaust. you gotta get used to which direction the piston goes in, which direction everytime you put it on. Yeah or you can take a wire brush to the top of the piston to clean off the carbon so you can see the arrow. It's okay to wire brush the dome of the cylinder head too. Carbon deposits rob performance.

Thank you guys, been a weekend mechanic for over a decade, love figuring out and fixing problems, just never knew there was a piston orientation, now I know.
Going to look for a front fender, a petcock, and buy a new head/piston/ring set. Also going to plastic dip the fairings, not sure what color tho
