RollingThunder,I love the old Mikuni 'roundy' VM carbs! They were the go-to carb back in the day,,now the flat slide types have taken over as theyve got a shorter body length(important for high HP),flow more CFM's and the top choice is the PWK..The older Keihin PJ (simi flat slide)was used on many MX bikes were good, but somewhat hard to tune.Mikuni makes flat slides too,but the PWK is hands down the best choice...

Thanks for the link Tsimi, I placed my order today for my carb. I went with a Keihin 35mm PWK. Now it’s just a waiting game, everything I need is ordered.

Stopped by Scooterswapshop today for a quart. Brandon Just so happened to have the banshee reeds on hand. Here’s the difference side by side between the Malossi and the banshee reeds.

Has he ever dyno’d that custom intake of his? I just think there has to be a tipping point where power starts to go the other way. Or you lose all the bottom end but gain some up top.

I ask because I recently watch an episode of engine masters and they tested 3 different sets of heads on a mildly built engine. The smallest and medium set made the same power curve with the medium making more everywhere but the same curve. The biggest set made the most peak power by a c-hair but moved the power way down the curve. It make me think you might lose some drivability or be a pain in the ass to street drive. If you were racing it fine, but trying to rip around town it might not be the way to go. I might be totally wrong, but it’s something to consider

Reed tech is a huge subject in the 125cc Kart world, many, many hours are spent on a dyno trying different combinations, latest findings are to use a thinner upper reed to better channel the mixture to the transfer ducts, stiffer lower to keep mixture out of the spinning crank..Mixture also exits the sides of the reed tips,so a bit of bulge is needed in the reed duct also; All of this info is from KiwiBiker here; www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/86554-ESE-s-works-engine-tuner/page1845

He's had his Polini big evo on the dyno when I went in there today. I'll ask if he's running the banshee reeds next Saturday when I go back. I've just been mimicking Zip stunters set up on his zip as far as the bigger carb and intake go. Sounds so crisp with the 35mm keihin. Great throttle response. youtu.be/uCVQ3skd9FQ

I’d love to see the graphs before his big intake and after. Do you know if he’s keeping the same size carb? Before I sell my 28mm PWK I want to see what my ass dyno says between the 28 and 35mm PWK.

Definitely butt test the shiz out of it. I’ll probably use the 28mm just to get it started. Then around the end of the year step it up to a 35mm like yourself. I only had $165 cash on me today when I went into scooterswapshop. But I put the spacer and reeds on layaway. 😆 He sent me home with the spacer. I’ll pick up the reeds next payday. If I had the 35mm keihin now I would have saved the brand new 28mm for later....
