Got down to 7 °F here in Reno the night before last. Got half way to the grocery store and turned around back to home. But the worst has to be an Amarillo Ice Storm. You leave absolutely nothing exposed to the atmosphere.

I could never keep my hands warm until I got heated gloves. And to help my feet I would put one pair of socks on, a plastic shopping bag over those and then another pair of socks. The plastic bag between the socks really helped a lot.

Grip heaters are worth every penny ($30-40 with adding a PWM for mine), or heated mitts or gloves (but they are more money). I've never found any unheated gloves that will not have me in pain within a short amount of time. I like to ride for an hour plus though, so it may not be so bad if you don't have a long ride. Glove liners are cheap and help some. I've got a pair of ski pants. I rarely wear them because I'm fat enough without adding puff padding, but those things are no joke. They do what they're intended to do and easily go on over regular clothes. I'd imagine the whole ski and snowmobile suits would be really nice. These welders gloves I wear keep my hands really warm actually. I wear kevlat Glover with the welder gloves over them.. My hands start sweating after about 5 mins

Wow. I've got glove liners and 2 different sets of insulated motorcycle gloves and even with grip heaters my fingers are usually in pain after a while. I'd try welders gloves over them, but I'll have to see if I can find anything large enough to fit over XXL padded gloves. I know my regular ones won't.
I did try latex gloves before and that helped a bit. I forget if I had them directly over my hands or over the glove liners now.

I don't really see riding in the cold to be worth it. It's just cold and not that enjoyable so I'd rather wait til summer.
That said, sliding the scooter around the house in snow is fun.

Some of us HAVE to ride. A guy in the local Honda shop calls us the true bikers. It's been snow flurries all day, gonna get down to a predicted 13 degrees by 7am when I get off work, winds at 8,gusting to 15. I've already started gathering my layers. This is just the beginning of the brutal temps, too. Worst part, the cvt slipping is really making me nervous to ride the Super 9 in, with its great leg sheltering and the windscreen. So I'm most likely taking the tgb, no windscreen and for some reason the front fairings seem to direct the wind directly to the tops of my thighs.

triesandluth, the plasic bags worked pretty good for me. Wasn't perfect, but much better. Of course Vegas temps are nothing compared to yours.

My commute is only 5 miles, and I just got a bitchin new pair of work boots, so I'll be seeing if the bags are necessary. But that info will be useful for anytime I'm needing to go further.

I just saw a Chinese clone of one of those the other day. I had to stop and stare.

Sounds like you guys need one of these: I have talked about making a removable cover of sorts before. It sure would help.

My boots did well on the ride in. They shouldn't be a bother. I'm planning to get some bar mitts. I've heard some love them and some hate them. I guess it could make things awkward. I'd rather have a bit of awkward than a lot of frost bite.
