Picked up a pronto to flip and got the engine running nice. Went for a test ride and had crappy acceleration and couldn't get past 30 without a hill. Even with a hill, I had to go almost wot to hit 35. When I first checked the cvt, it looked to be in good shape, but this time I took it all apart. Almost brand new gates belt, the clutch looked almost brand new but a bit rusty, and the cvt looked fine. Despite the rusty looking springs, everything on the clutch moves fine. Rollers looked fine, but I weighed them and 3 were 5g and 3 were 4g. I made sure they were spaced correctly and put it all back together and not much change. No restrictors on the scoot. I ran it without he cvt cover on and everything moved smoothly.
Would 4.5g combined rollers be enough to restrict my speed that much? Engine is revving really high at top speed. It may have been fine for the girl I got it from because she's half my size, but that seems really low for a normal person. Swapping to 5 or 6 should drop the revs and force the variator closed more, right? I'm just trying to get it near stock so I can sell it.

I am a 2T guy but it sounds like you are on the right track, try some heavier rollers.

Since it's revving high, I'd definitely try a roller swap. If you don't have anything heavier around, stuff some aluminum foil in each one (weigh and make them even) and try it.

Put some 6 gram weights in and the revs stayed down, but no noticeable speed increase. It's a new gates belt, would it's well know. Extra stiffness cause issues? Not really sure where to go from here except a new bore kit, which I really didn't want to spend money on

Make sure you have the right amount of air in the tires, when the amount of air is low on my tires it make a huge difference cause I'm about 235 lbs

Go up another gram or two on the weights.

You mentioned rust on your clutch. Is the torque drive lubed and functioning properly?

You mentioned rust on your clutch. Is the torque drive lubed and functioning properly? It feels like it. I can collapse it with my hands with about the same effort I I've used on others. I'm probably going to take it apart today to give it a good look over

Stupid question but, how did you know you had to go WOT to hit 35? I mean, was it indeed 35? Or were you going by the scoot's speedo? I am not saying that you don't have a feel for these speeds but, if you are relying on the scoot's speedo than this might explain what you are experiencing even though most scoots are made to over read...maybe this one had a tire size change that might change this?
If you were using GPS or some other means, then just ignore my post. Then I would agree with the suggestion that maybe the clutch pulley is not sliding open all the way. You can mark both pulleys (variator and clutch) with marker and see where the belt actually rides after a few test rides.

This is getting even more ridiculous. After going through a couple variators and clutches that all looked good, swapping weights around, and even putting on a 80cc kit, this thing still will not go above 25-30. The only things I can think of to do now is swap the CDI in case it was limited and check the gears to see if something is borked in there. I don't hear any weird noises and it starts up like a dream. Revs high on the kickstand, but can't get out of its own way when driven.
The only off thing I can find is that it looks like someone tried to grind out the head a bit and its kinda scarred up, but I don't think that would be affecting it this much. I may end up swapping the head out with another just in case, but I would like to avoid that.
I really need to get this thing sold and out of my way. Any ideas?

Based on the head, you'll want to do a compression check. If the head is rough, you can get pre-detonation pretty easily which would kill your power.

The spark plug color can tell a story...
If it was me, I would put it back the way it was originally and sell it to the first person that is willing to hand you the money you are asking for. You don't need to talk much during then transaction. Just start it, let them ride it and put your hand out. If they put cash in that hand then you accomplished your mission.

Note to self. "Never buy a scoot from Fox."

I would, but it's noticeable that there's something wrong. People here won't buy a scoot unless it can at least keep up with traffic.

I've got to second the advice already given here by the others. Checking the plug color and the compression test. Also check for intake leaks. Can you post a pic of the scarred up head? If it is rough get rid of it. Also if the volume of it has been increased by much your compression will suffer.
