so i bought this hurricane 2t the other day as some may know and it starts up and idles but once it warms up it dies. the guy said it needed piston rings, could that be the cause? I always thought if the rings were bad it wouldnt start at all..... also it smokes a little, is that normal with 2 strokes? thanks.. getting ready to jump into the 2t world

Check compression. Switch out the old fuel lines with clear lines. Definetley clean out the carb or replace it. See how bad the tank is.

it has clear lines on it. its getting gas... gas is leaking out of the bottom of the carb

Stock carb usually does that after time. Float needs to be adjusted. If it has one try to screw the drain screw in. If after adjusting the float height the carb still leaks gas get a new carb or try to plug it with fuel line and a screw/bolt. They do that. You have a 2t now. Just to get it running yeah you could replace stock parts. But what about the mods later. Malossi, polini, dellorto, yasuni, hoca, etc..

Clean the carb, check float height, and then try to run the scoot with the enricher unplugged. IF that helps, it's time to upjet. You could be lean and the enricher is compensating till it warms up and cuts the extra fuel off.
Welcome to the world of two strokes. A little smoke is normal, depending on the oil you use. Personally, I avoid the " smokeless " oils.

OK so just a few things.. what style carb is this? the guy said the carb was new.. i opened it up and the float seamed normal, everything was clean/new. nothing clogged.. level/parallel with the ground when held up..and now it seems when i put everything back on the throttle doesn't work right...like the cable didn't go in all the way..and what is that little hose sticking out the side with an adjustment screw in it? also these 2 plugs under the seat have nothing plugged into them and then there these 2 wires more towards the gas tank.. thanks for the help guys really appreciate it

Renegade with all respect I know you have a cell phone holder but do you have a compression tester?A well used 2t will have about 130#s compression on the button and will rise somewhat when you kick it.Less than a hundred most likely won't run.No HF testers but Walmart sells a respectable one reasonably. As much as you work on scoots not having a tester is as silly as not having a screwdriver. No offense intended.

It is also possible something is lodged in the float needle not allowing it to shut off fuel when the bowl is full. That is possibly your carb leak problem.

Those two wires... look like they might go to the oil level sending unit that should be on top of the oil reservoir.
And in the first and second pictures I see a capped off hose. That looks like the oil injection port. If so, are you running premix in the tank?

So make sure to get some oil and add it to the tank when filling up.

Sorry Renegade but that begs the question what reading do yo get?And I strongly recommend dumping the remaining fuel and give her a fresh batch of premix.Without knowing any history the guy you bought it from might have just put some pump gas in the tank sans oil and that would explain running til warm, soft seize.
