Anybody have first hand or maybe even 2nd hand experience with this turbo or one like it? Is it worth it? IHI RHB31 3T-505 Worlds Smallest Turbocharger

I have seen it before. No experience with it though. I have read that a major problem in trying to get a turbo to work on a scoot is the exhaust flow or lack thereof. By no means am I an expert in this or any other turbo. Just passing on what little I know.

I wonder if you could just use passing air to spool the turbo if exhaust flow isn't enough. ヽ(´ー`)ノ

I literally know nothing about turbos so I'm only saying this because I'm tired and can't see any reason this wouldn't work but, get a big ol' cone and funnel the air right into the turbo, can even put it on the front of the scoot to get maximum airflow

I could see if you EFI it would work well however a little 4 stroke will loose a lot of response and get tons of turbo lag I would imagine the turdo kicking in at the wrong time like on sand lol also a lower compression ratio is advised to reduce pre detonation AKA knock.

Yes the price is stupid even for the knock off that should be a $200 turbo for the real one I could see a complete small engine kit with EFI conversion for like $750. If I had the ability to cast I'd make one lol

Ram air from riding 30 mph just ain't gonna cut it. My guess is that it would not even be enough to turn it 1 rpm. Don't forget, there is a compressor on the other end of that shaft so there will be increasing resistance to turning the faster it goes.

Why turbo? Why not electric "supercharger"? No "draw" off motor and no lag... Have made a few... The cbrr motor on my shadow adds 4-6 lbs boost almost on demand... Flip switch, load up and gone...
I really don't like turbos anyway lol

Ah thermal dynamics say that's impossible!! Lol the energy needed to boost is far beyond what are electrical systems can handle I have years of experience just to discover its against physics like perpetual motion. Here is my Super charger build from years ago read comments.

I agree. I have seen several vids on Youtube with dyno testing showing that gains from the electric supercharger are a myth...at least the ones they were testing. I have no idea if they are all similar or not but I do know that you do not get something for nothing. If you had a powerful enough generator to really run one that might give some boost, the drag from the generator would more that use up any possible gains from the electric supercharger.

Do I really want to get involved in this debate not really. But may years ago (10-12) I built an electric supercharger/ turbo from the compressor wheel of a turbo attached to an electric rc car motor(7.2v) and ran it off of 12 volts it did make 2-3 psi but could not run long before the brushes overheated. Is it possible yes with the right motor.
