I know it’s been asked a million times but anyone have a current source for reliable, genuine Keihin carbs? I’ve been having back luck with a Glixal and want to try a legit one. Thanks!

Well then maybe slightly different question - what’s the best carb I can put on my 49cc GY6 Taotao?

My Vespa has a 18mm Kiehin carb. Replacement ones are in the $200 range.

I'm not impressed. I have had too much bad luck with scooter parts from Amazon... glad I got out of that routine.

I agree. Amazon sucks a big greasy one.

What kind of bad luck have you guys had with Amazon? I ordered my front tire, fuel filter, and usually buy sliders through them. The only scooter bad luck I had was ordering front-end kit, the vendor was unresponsive so I just canceled and ordered somewhere else. I have otherwise ordered all sorts of other things from Amazon, including all sorts of car parts - clutch, flywheel, plugs, etc.

I have pretty much come to the conclusion that the factory installed carbs 'work', but are not the best. You can find a good upgrade carb from many web or brick & mortar stores. The Keihin 'clones' are decent, and pretty much all the same as far as quality of workmanship and accuracy of machining. I have a selection(7-80 and they are all about the same, even the Keihin clones. A suggestion would be to find a carb that has the manufacturers name cast into the side of the carb body, behind the throttle cable mounting plate. I think there are a could makers that are proud enough of their wormanship that they label their work. I may be wrong(would not be the first time) but figure they at least want you to know who made it, and thus how to get another if you like it. Memory says there are about three that actually label their product, along with a pile that don't, and another pile that use someone else' name in an attempt to sell product. Glixal in China will sell a 'Keihin', complete with black plastic vacuum chamber cover "Techonolgy from Japan" and the name cast into the carburetor. 20mm bore, and 'ok' quality. I don't think it is an actual Keihin, but am relatively satisfied as I'm not looking to go racing, just want decent performance, and a bit of reliability. We shall see. The Amazon Glixal store is perhaps selling the same thing for a few dollars more, but not labeling it as a Keihin. I think it is an actual 20mm bore as measured(as well as I could get my caliper to do so), so would give a decent approximation of the performance you'd get from just about any real 20mm. I took it apart(partially) and could not determine pilot or main jet sizes(no marks I could find), so will have to see what happens when run(too cold & rainy). The insides were decent, with not a lot of casting mmold flash, decent fasteners, and ok gasket. I do have one actual 18mm Keihin, branded and with serial numbers, etc. It is just a little better in quality than the Glixal alibaba store clones I purchased. Not much, but some bits seem a bit better. tom

I ordered a 20mm from scooters_to_go on eBay and I am blown away by the difference between it and the Glixal. Not only does it run perfectly, it improved my top speed about 6mph! It is branded Keihin but I don’t think Keihin makes a real 20mm based on research and feedback from the forum. It bogged down at about 41mph so I’m guessing I need a little bigger main jet (it came with a 80 pre-installed).

I'd like to see if it has that "lip".
