just purchased a 08 zuma completely stock for a pretty solid price, thing runs fairly good not sure how regular it was upkept but it does have 8.5k miles on it.
so far all i want is a lil more speed i kno the throttles are limited so i need to figure that out, but what size jets do ppl run in these? are the open air filters usuable on these as well? ive heard mixed things on the uni filters with the 2 strokes.
open to all info just trying to get maybe 40 mph with out much money into it.

First thing you need to do is find out what main jet is in the carb if it’s an 80 or higher it is the good oem carb
If it is lower I believe a 76 the previous owner took it in for the epa recall
Don’t put an open filter on it the Zuma likes having an air box in fact that same air box is used on 90 and the 100 cc engines plus all it does is make more noise and make it harder to tune infact you can not tune the stock carb to run properly on an open filter because the needle isn’t adjustable and you can’t get it rich enough on the piglet jet
Honestly I’m 6 1 just over 250 and had no issues doing 40 mph on an un.molested 08 Zuma for 10000 miles well I did do the throttle mod and that can be found over on Zumaforms.net
Start with a compression test see where the scoot is at Replace the belt with a new oem belt the Zuma doesn’t like after market belts Yamaha’s oem belt is just a touch diffrent then the aftermarket ones Ensure the throttle mod has been done and that you have the good carb if you don’t have the good carb look for a used 02 to 05 carb Make sure there is only 110cc or just shy of 1/2 cup of gear oil in the trans And that the tires are not worn and properly inflated

ok sounds good, i checked into the throttle mod just have to get a dremel for that. gonna tear into the carb today and see what jet is in it.
as for tires i def need a new ones so ill get that done. what would be a cheap/ez way to get a accurate compression read?

Go to an auto parts store that rents tools. You buy it then they refund the money.

ok so the carb did have a 80 main jet, doing the throttle mod tonight or tomorrow will see how it goes from there.
also were would u start with variator tuning? i heard stock were 7/7.5 were would u go from there?
was thinking of doing a 70cc kit, i mostly ride a few miles a day to the gym would be about 50 miles. what would i all need to do after the t mod and a new belt. was gonna order a jet kit and a roller kit.
if some one could give me a link to reliable kits and parts i prefer to use ebay but w/e works.

I’d look for something in the sport class of cylinders and cast bore if you haven’t done any tuning before. That Airsal cylinder is aluminum and they are not forgiving to improper tunes. Polini sport or contessa is a nice long lasting cylinder with a nice boost over stock. Your crank is a 10mm pin so keep that in mind during your search. You’ll want to do some cvt tuning to get the most out of it, and then you’ll want a pipe and then your addicted and it’s never ending. www.scootertuning.ca/en/24-cylinders

Ok first thing is first there are only 2 proper jets easily found for the tk carb Go over to zumaforums.net and find mynthread why use the right jet it has the Yamaha part numbers you need Second even if you are just going with a big bore kit and keeping the oem pipe you will not need to change the rollers Yamaha has the trans tune spot on. Don’t take the shim out of the variator Now if you add a pipe to the build you will need to tune the trans
The kit I like on Zuma or just about any hm engine is the top performance brand trophy Top performance is the high performance division of minerllie so it’s basically like going to Chevy performance parts and buying parts

ive done a lot of builds for the gy6 4t but this is my first 2 t, the big bore installs look insanely ez. also every kit ive linked is a 10mm pin, i dont wanna do a aftermarket pipe atm.
so dont touch cvt till a new pipe, and i ordered a jet kit last night have a local dealer here so thats ez.
jmkjr72 could u link a affordable kit from the top trophy the ones i seen were like 350. tbh the pollini looks really good and ive heard ppl have great results. mainly just wanna hit that 45-50 mark fairly ez i dont mind being maxed out on revs but id like to be able to not be wot at 45.

Ok so i did the throttle mod gained 5 mph and a good amount of take off.
Im at about 35 atm maybe more on flat. Also the acrews to the throttle had a metal piece in them so i had to grin D em for a flat head. also i found ur thread about the jets, and i found the bbk u recommend way more affordable then i thought.
also i didnt do this the prettiest lol didnt have exactly the right pieces for the dremel so was using a big cutting tool i nicked the needle casing a few times is that ok? i didnt cut it just shined it up a bit.
What are some other suggestions. Thx again.

not sure how to quote stuff but i did say i found the kit actually if u read my full post, and ya i figured id need new reeds soon so i ordered some i havent grabbed a belt yet. the scooter feels like its going strong tho its 35 pretty quick feels like it wants to keep going, i havent really put many miles on it since the mod tho.
what speeds do u usually see off that kit? i guess i should just pm u.

I’d agree at 35 you’ll need some cvt maintenance. A new belt, rollers, TD spring and TD cleaning should help get some speed back. On a good running stock motor you should see 40-42.

ryan_ott thats before the bbk right? i ordered reeds a few days ago so those shoudl be here soon, ordered a belt last night only belt i could really find was the athena belts? is this ok? also after reeds and belt i was gonna order a roller kit since the gy6 rollers i have are not the same size as the zumas.
i think im just gonna buy a clutch when i have the spare money so gonna avoid the springs for now. hopefully the new reeds and belt help out. again thx for the help.
