Could be a mistake, can't find it anywhere else. Might play with mine first and create grooves to let it slide further like others have done. Have to take a closer look at mine.

Need a mini belt sander to get in there and extend the grooves.

Looking at variators online how do I know the OD of the pulley I'm getting? I don't see a mention of pulley diameters in adds. I know I have a 15 spline shaft that is 16mm and most parts have jog stamped.

I figured I would post on this thread because people are reading about variators . So I just installed a new Malossi variator ( Multivar ) the other day and have had problems ever since. The backplate was hanging up on the slider clips on install and thought that had been the problem . I rode it last night and the other day and I had started hearing this tin tink tink sound , don't know where its coming from . It sounds like if you had other keys on your key chain riding down the road and they clanking around slightly. I thought perhaps the slider clips were torn up, but they were fine. BUT what I just noticed different from before( old variator) on reinstalling just now again , the belt is not touching the sides of the variator pulley sheives. I see each side has room so it appears it is not catching. Any advise would be appreciated . Also Both bosses seemed to be the same length when I installed the new.

Pictures of the sound ? The only thing I guess I could try and take a photo of is the variator together inside the case. Not much to see really , more of a question should there be room on each side of belt ( say 1 mm or 2 ) in reference to the variater walls ? Im just wondering if it is to much and is not riding up the walls appropriately but it doesn't make sense , why would they sell it to me and they said it was specific to my scoot.

Sounds to me like the belt is narrower than the variator closed? I've had the side cover off and taken videos of mine running and revving it up through the rpm's. What belt are you running? I'm starting out myself and found a lot of various belt sizes. Does the boss have spacers?

Ok thank you. When I look inside were the variator is tightened up , which has a new correct size new belt, I can slosh it side to side a tiny bit. On my previous original variator it snugged , no movement. In another one I tried a couple weeks ago but was no good it snugged up on the sides of the belt. This Multivar variator will not snug up the belt. I just been emailing DynoScooter.com all evening ( where I purchased a lot of parts from ). He claims I have the right belt and the correct variator .

Yes that what I am saying, yet is correct belt and variator . NO shims no spacers, but looks like over shimmed.

2 things are coming to my mind as this is being discussed. 1) even though the variator seems tightened maybe my washer in the front is not enough and need a second one to " reach " the spline ? And 2 ) The crank shaft side wall is bare . maybe if I put shims on that side it would move it just enough to close the gap on the variator .

Have you compared the size of the old boss, to the new one? Might be wrong but with the sound you describe. It sounds like the variator has been tightened into the belt. Then when running will make that noise. You must pull the torque drive apart, and let the belt sit low between the halves. This gives slack on the belt to tighten the variator.

It is probably ok. Be aware racing planet must be in a different solar system than us, shipping times can be VERY lengthy. I order from them as a last resort. To America at least, I get my orders sent out same day and DHL averages a week to 10 days from RP Germany to me in New Zealand. Issue I keep seeing is Americans ordering from the US site but RP carries most of their stock in Germany and the UK so there's a delay there.

They are exactly identical.
And no the belt is not being pinched , it s not even touching and yes the belt is down on the clutch pulley.

Racing Planet in Europe is a whole different beast than they are here in the states. In fact, they aren't even the same company anymore. He'll have no problem from them overseas. That's why we sell so much RP product ourselves now. The market wanted it and Racing Planet USA continues to be largely unable to provide. Matt
