Ok, so I have a 2018 Riya (peace sports) renegade. Bought it 5 weeks ago new. Had it as a 49cc, upgraded at the dealer 2 weeks ago to a 50mm BBK, runs great. A few days ago after a 20+ mile round trip on the scoot, I noticed gear oil on the floor the next day. It is coming out of a white/clear barb fitting coming out of the cvt case just forward of the gear oil drain plug.
I Do not know if they changed anything in the transmission when installing the BBK/carb/air filter. The place I bought the scoot and had the work done to it has been really vague. Didn’t even give me a part list when I paid for the BBK.
The oil “puddle” has been fairly small, but annoying. I know there is only about 4oz total in there, and I don’t want my gear case blowing up because of some lazy dude at a shop not doing something right.
This only happens when I take it on long rides. I live in south FL, so it’s really hard to get to a scoot shop without it being at least 45mins away.
My guess is that it’s a breather vent of some kind?

I've never seen a breather at the bottom of the transmission like that. It should be on the top so it can breath. It looks like it has a barb that should have a hose.

Update: called the scoot dealer... they have no idea. 😕

My best guess would be to put a length of fuel hose on it and run it up high on the frame somewhere and put a filter of some kind on it to keep debris out. It could be some kind of pressure relief valve?

It could be some kind of pressure relief valve? I was thinking the same thing. I came home from work and checked on the scoot, all of the gear oil is now on the floor. Pretty irritating! It’s been 5 weeks since I bought it new. And has 435km on it. Called the scooter dealer and they wanted me to ride it there, 25miles one way. With it leaking like that, I don’t want to chance destroying the transmission. I’m going to have them pick up the bike. Since it’s got a 6mo/2000km warranty on it. This is definitely a headache. I was looking forward to riding this entire week. 😕

I'm not sure about other scoots, but my taotao has no such breather anywhere near the gearbox. It might have a warranty, but that leak is nothing that can't be fixed with a hose cap and a refill of gear oil.

I agree, I just hope It isn’t leaking out of the threads, seems to be weeping out of there too. I’ll try the cap and refil, hopefully that works.

It is a breather to allow for expansion when the lube gets hot... such as after a longish 25 mile run. You can add a length of tubing and route it upwards to slow/stop any outflow. The expanded lube will travel up the tubing and then flow back when the machine cools down. You may find the level of lube it too high. The 'fill plug' is up and to the right of the drain plug. Get the machine on the center stand, front wheel on the ground. Remove the plug. If oil comes out, you may be too full. The level specified is up to the lower edge of the opening. Many add just a bit more with no apparent bad effects. If it is too high, you can let some out and likely stop the leak. If too low, you have a leak or it was not filled properly. You can drain out the China-supplied lube and install some from a vendor you know as some question the quality of the factory lube. You should change the lube after the first 500 miles, I think, per the owners manual. I use a syringe to plop the new stuff in place until it starts to drool out the filler, at which time I stuff the plug in place. tom
Added: The path the lube takes is called a labyrinth. The lube had to go 'uphill' and around a circuitous path to be able to get out the vent(on the bottom). Take a look at pictures of the side case and the passages cast in that connect to the bottom vent and you'll see it is a long way round to get there.

If it's a threaded Barb you can unscrew it and either replace it with the right bolt or use some Teflon tape around the threads and reinstall it. That should stop it leaking from the threads.

Thank you for the input, I was talking to a mechanic friend of mine and he said the same thing. So I’m off to the auto parts store, picking up gear oil, vacuum line and a breather cap. I’ll post pics when I get to it. The itch to ride is strong!

Update, so the length of hose and refil of the gear case did the trick. No leaks. 👍🏻
