Pretty important. If your clutch slips, it'll effect the cvt tune. Besides, you spent all that money on the overrange, might as well get a clutch to make everything new. A malossi fly clutch is like $60 I think.

I mentioned I had gotten a god deal on an Athena sport kit. It was on Amazon an open box item (it said used). Athena part #070100 normal $160. I got it for $45

you can be like us folk here in Hawaii and run 28mm OKO or OKOclones, wide open with bell mouth or velocity stack. it guzzles a lot of gas and everyone can hear you BRAAAPing from a mile away. (Sarcasm). but nah, for real kind, a lot of us here on Oahu run 28mm OKO carbs because it's reasonably priced (cheaper than Polini or Dellorto). 28 OKOs can be a headache to tune for a 70cc, it seems too big. but, it is tunable for a 70cc bore. the downside is the noise because most 28mm carbs do not mate up to air boxes nicely, so we run them wide open or with a UNI foam filter on it. it uses too much fuel.
I ran a Polini CP 24 with stock air box and had great results on a 70cc. a lot quieter than an open OKO carb. it was much more fuel efficient when compared to the 28 OKO.
we just run 28mm OKOs here on Oahu because "bigger is better"...haha or so we'd like to think. your carb choice depends on how much you want to tune. I never had a Dellorto, I hear about them a lot and all the different needles and jets, seems like you can really fine tune those carbs. I have run a OKOclone 26 with power jet too. those are a headache to tune, but once you understand it and figure it out, the power jet carb was pretty awesome. bottom line is, how you prefer to tune your scoot. I pretty much just tune for Wide Open Throttle below 350 degrees F. I don't fiddle with different needles, I tune mid throttle via needle clip position, I adjust accordingly if it sputters or bogs. pilot jetting for me is pretty much dependent on the air screw and the amount of turns in or out. for all I know, my carb tuning might not be optimal, but it works. it doesn't bog or sputter though out the throttle range so it's good enough for me. Here on Oahu I just tune for wide open throttle because if you pull up to a stop light or if you come across other people on scoots/mopeds on the highways, at some point you're probably go on a "race"/speed run, and at that point you're running wide open throttle, long time. for my purposes, the 28 OKO suits me well. it is definitely over carbureted, but it is tuned how I like to ride. I can hold it wide open throttle all day long and not go over 360 degrees F. that's the main thing...after 350 you run into the realm of the Soft Seize...lose money!

I had originally ordered the Yasuni Z exhaust. I thought the order was canceled because my bank credited back the payment to me. Well turns out it’s still coming I got a fedex tracking number today. Works out kinda need it until my setup can handle the r1400.

Jetting question...I thought it might be easier / safer to break-in the new cylinder with the stock carb and intake (w/Athena reeds). I assume it will need a jet upgrade though. My question is what size jets do I order for the stock Dellorto. Stock main jet is 80?? M5 or m6?

My question is what size jets do I order for the stock Dellorto. Stock main jet is 80?? M5 or m6? Rule of thumb is start high and work your way down. I think a 10% increase is what calls for a new one up exhaust and cylinder upgrade. I'd buy a cheap 10 piece kit. 85-95 range. Start at 95. Since your not really gonna use that carb again. Your not gonna want a lot of jets for it. You could even pick the set yourself 82,85,88,90,92,95,98, etc. I don't know what your stock carb size or model is. But these guys do. You could get your jets from them to. www.treatland.tv/new-puch-peugeot-motobecane-vespa-moped-parts-s/88.htm?searching=Y&sort=3&cat=88&f-carburetors,%20intakes,%20reeds,%20air%20filters,%20jets=54&show=99&page=1&f-dellorto=32

Will it hurt anything to run the stock carb /jets (17.5 Dellorto) on the 70cc sport kit? I realize may not be optimal.

I wouldn't do it without a temp gauge.

I ran a sport as well as a mid race bore with the stock carb, upjetted. It was hard to keep the temp from getting too hot. To compensate for that I ended up installing a jog90 cooling fan. I couldn't get the jetting right to keep the temps in a reasonable range.

I haven't seen enough about carb size related to temps. I've been reading about jet size and lean/rich... hmmm

It's incredibly important to get used to the idea of tuning your carb. Nobody can tell you what size jet to run and splitting your engine apart to get pieces of piston out of it isn't fun either. So no- don't run your carb at stock setting with upgraded parts. The tune may not end up being far from stock when you're done tuning but it's incredibly important to do it. A temp gauge is a huge help...

I got the Yasuni z exhaust in today. Would adding it to a completely stock motor drop my power in half? No torque and a top speed of 20-25. I get 40 all day with the stock exhaust. I’m a little confused.

You'll likely need lighter rollers and stronger clutch springs, plus some upjetting when running an expansion chamber..

Welcome to the world of scooter tuning. 2 strokes take more work to get everything in tune then their 4poke counterparts, but it’s sooo worth it. It’s not the pipe it’s your cvt setup. Chambers loss power down low but makeup for it up top.
Also check that you don’t have restrictions in the pipe. Usually in the form of washers welded in the cylinder flange and/or the silencer.
