Works fine. You definitely can upgrade them. Some scoots almost require an upgrade for heavy riders and others are alright stock. www.49ccscoot.com/faq/shock.htmlwhat none of u pusss go a anser. Gotta give people time. We answer as we can. There are lots of questions and discussions here. Most people will ignore your question if you start name calling... and it's just not cool. im none with this site.brent u let it get way out of hand , good buy. It is a good buy IMO. It's free.

While we're discussing single shocks for scooters...
I'm building a second Honda Ruckus/GY6 150 powered scooter. The first was a minimalist bike--no fenders, no blinkers, etc., a poor man's chopper. It turned out so well that I decided to build a second one that will as closely as possible look like a stock Ruckus and be more functional.
On the first build I used a Honda CH-80 shock and between the mounting angle and my weight (around 170 lbs. ready to ride) it rides nice but is barely adequate in it's spring rate. Since the next build will be heavier and will be equipped with a rack and carry an occasional load I'll need a shock that not only actually has some dampening but be adjustable for preload.
Alternatively I've considered welding mounting tabs on the stock Ruck rear frame and running dual shocks.
Anyway any advice on what single shock might work for my application from someone who's been there and built similar bikes would be most appreciated.

^ woodsrat I have been trying very hard to keep my GY6 Ruck as "stock" as possible. The rear shock and the whole connection mechanism has not been as smooth going as one would think. It was toward the end of the season before I ended up getting this: www.scooterworks.com/NCY-Adjustable-Shock-Genuine-Scooters-GY6-P588.aspx?gclid=Cj0KCQiAuf7fBRD7ARIsACqb8w7iGGbk7uIhNOQqxFV4o8O-gP-jPWU7H0GGMLqi-saNR_WhhiKcE34aAuoYEALw_wcBI'm about 220lbs. I got a rack on the back of the bike, but really, I way outweigh anything I could put in the travel case. It would be nice if I had a dual-shock setup. The stock GY6 engine bushings are tweaked and need replaced. It'll be a few months before I get all of last riding season's corrections done now that winter is here, and wait for Spring to roll around so I can get out to really test out the new shock. Here's a pic with the old Forsa shock (red, eww!) Then the new NCY:

As I have mentioned before, change the angle the shock is mounted at. The more vertical it is the higher the load required to deflect the scoot seat downward an inch. If you are going to move the engine and wheel backwards you must extend the frame and shock mount points backwards also. Having the shock almost horizontal is worthless. There is a reason to study basic physics and math in school.
Sorry about your sister, mine has been there also as well as other relatives.

Totally understood - I have a degree in Physics, but intuitively, most people see that it's a bad angle... that doesn't require an education unless ones synapses generally don't fire. Personally, I am working around the Composimo kit that extends the top of the shock about 8 inches or so (?) from the OEM location. To extend it any further I would need to pick up welding because there does not appear to be any better kit on the market. This could be the straw that breaks the horses back and I start building FrankenBikes, FrankenMech.

Then the new NCY: This is very close to what my next build will look like except I'm going to use the stock 150 rear wheel with the Ruckus rear fender. I used a Composimo mount on my first build and liked it so well I bought another for #2. My game plan is to ride it from Indy to the "Smoky Mountain Crawl" next year. Thanks for the tip on the shock!!!

Off the subject but can someone link me to thread(s) about GY6/Ruckus builds without an extensive search??? Thanks...
