Does it have a restricted variator? I’d also try the stock cdi again, just in case the cheap one has a bad curve. I am planning on looking at the variator when I get home. From this parts diagram it looks like there may be some washers on the variator. If I'm reading this correctly anyway. parts #3 and #19 are just called "washer" at this website alpha-sports.com/um_parts.htm

Scribble all over the sheave faces with a marker, go for a top speed run, that’ll show how high the belt rides, if it’s stopping part way up you’ll know you need to dig deeper.

Might need to replace the variator now, it may be out of balance badly now and cause more problems later. I have a good used variator somewhere I can throw in the box along with the rubber mat for the Kymco. I should be able to get that out to you tomorrow or the next day.
Is there anything else you may need that I might have? I got lots of chinarelli stuff.

Belt dust is normal. Measure the width of the belt and check it overall condition to decide if it needs to be replaced. Should be a 788 17 28, or that's what many use at least. If so 16mm is OK, but replace by 15mm width. Good idea to get a spare now to have on hand. I prefer Bando belts.

I believe the variator has a 21mm hole (that's what i measured it to be). some other models have an 18mm from what I can tell. If you have a 21mm one laying around yeah definitely! is it worth replacing that variator fan sheave too (i broke off one fan)? it's a 16mm hole. If you have one of those laying around, let me know! I'll try to order some parts online if not. Should I play with roller weights? I don't have any extra ones, so i would be looking at ordering some of those if that's suggested. I ordered the derestricted drive boss for the Kymco from some Taiwan scooter shop that was in that link in the other thread.

Ok, I will scratch up a tuning package for you. It's mostly stuff I no longer really need. If you get into tuning the CVT much, you really need to get something like a 20 volt Dewalt impact. And make sure you check out 90GTVert's videos on CVT inspection and tuning. You have to make sure you get the variator assembled, engaged and tightened on the crank correctly or you will soon be looking up how to replace the crankshaft. Been there, done that!

I bought an air impact wrench last night after breaking the variator without one. I could've used one for some car maintenance in the past so figured it would be good to have around.
Thanks!

I got a package out to you today UPS. I will message you the tracking # a little later. The variators I sent are used but still have some life left in them. I also sent a good used hoca variator, you will need 16x13 rollers if you want to use it. I sent a large assortment of 15x12 rollers and sliders that work with the stock variators. Also sent shims, star washers, variator nuts, clutch nuts, ramp plates and a bushing or two. A good contra pulley with a stock lightened clutch and a ball bearing contra spring seat, assorted contra springs, a clutch bell, and a couple used but still plenty of life left Bando belts. 16.3mm and 16.4mm I think they measured. And of course the rubber mat for the ZX. Enjoy!

How important is that 30 ft lb torque stick? And if essential where can I find one? 1/2" drive

So this has been a really enjoyable hobby. Looking forward to cruising around with my wife this summer. And taking one to work instead of bussing!

As far as being necessary, that is debatable. Be careful with a 1/2" impact, they have a lot of Powa. a pressure regulator may help tame it.

Package arrived today! I used one of the stock variators and put on some heavier rollers. Your belts are less used than the one that was on there, so put one of those on too. Also put the floormat on the kymco.
It snowed 3" today so wont be able to test for awhile. I figured I would start with a small adjustment.
Ripped off the gasket that was on the CVT (it tore apart removing the cover). I'm guessing that's no big deal.

I never used a gasket for the CVT cover, did not seem to cause any problems for me.

Well it was snowy and -30 degrees for a bit. but this weekend it went up to 40 and enough snow melted that i took it out on a test drive. It was very foggy.
It took me about 10 minutes to get started. Well, I tried starting it for awhile. After I put additional gas into the tank it started pretty quickly afterwards.
It was really slow to accelerate and bogged down. Only went up to 7200 rpm and around 30 mph. I don't think the CVT changes could have caused that. I'm hoping it was partly due to the foggy weather? Is that possible? I also considered the exhaust may be clogged up with some carbon deposits. Would that be something that could impact taking forever to start?
Anyway I'm hoping it's the muffler or weather related and not something much worse. Any thoughts? Or things that are evident from the video of it idling?
Here is a video of it idling at the end of my 10 minute drive.
Then i proceeded to do this...
