So I purchased a lower final gear ratio set and the smaller gear have dents on the teeth can I fix it with a file or should I throw it away? Here's the link to the photos cus Tapatalk says that the photos are adult images haha imgur.com/a/5vGn0Cb

File off the protruding metal. Don't damage the faces of the teeth. You may need to use a Dremel with a thin stone or cutoff wheel; eye protection essential, full face shield probably best. After cleanup, paint both gers with Dykem or magic marker and turn them by hand to find the contact areas. Then make your decision.

Wow, manually adjusted fit, I see, using a Big Fing Hammer. They either got caught in a machine, or were 'factory adjusted' to get them out of another. Good suggestion to file or grind off the edges that protrude above the gear face. I would question the quality of the heat treatment(if any) for gears that can be deformed by a hammer, apparently. They may not last if they have not been treated. NOT and engineer, but thought the faces of the teeth would be 'parkerized' or 'flame hardened' or similar. I understand the splines of a manual clutch are hardened, so would expect these teeth to be also. If you can file them, they are not hardened. I would not have expectation of long life. If you bought them, you may be ahead to return them before installation for a refund or replacement. IOW, I don't know. tom

I had a set like that showed up with "dents" on the teeth. I carefully filed the dents smooth...I changed the oil every couple hundred miles and it never stopped shedding metal fragments. I wound up pulling the gears and installing a new set. FYI it appears the those gears weren't hardened and still looked rough after more than 1000 miles. Went back a couple years and dug out my posting I did when I had the problem. Transmission oil filings
