Slow down! You may or may not need a base gasket or gasket + shims. What does it look like at BDC and TDC without a gasket? IF it works out best you can just leave the gasket out and only use sealer at the base.
Also remember when adding duration, it is added twice cause the port opens sooner AND closes later.

Okay, so if I wanted to increase duration by say, 3º, I would only do 1.5º change on the degree wheel?

The transfer ports look like one port is too high and one is too low...

Anyone have any input as to what to do with the transfer ports before I continue?

Anyone have any input as to what to do with the transfer ports before I continue? Transfers look ok, slap a head on there and check your squish! Once you have squish where you want it, then carve the EX port the way you want it.

The ideal BDC setup is the piston edge is flush with the bottom of the transfer ports(for piston cooling)..Once you have that, get the durations and lets see where to go from there...

So after talking to oldgeek going to call transfers good for now and address squish. Just measured with solder and I’m getting ~1.2 - 1.3 mm. Obviously I want it closer to 0.8 or so...
Should I add another 0.5mm gasket totaling two gaskets to makeup the gap or should I use one gasket and two shims?

wouldn't adding shims or gaskets, base or head, only make the squish bigger?
it would be more like taking .5mm off the top of the jug or removing .5mm from the head flange to reduce the squish gap by .5mm

So it sounds like using no base gasket or possibly just the thinnest shim I sent you will get your squish to around .7 -.8 and the transfers should be pretty close to being set up ideal like 190mech suggests.
Once you get your squish set, its just a matter of tweaking the EX port to whatever specs you decide on.

So it looks like my squish is ~0.8 - 1.0 mm throughout the head with no gaskets or shims. I don’t think I can really afford any shins or gaskets with a gap that big. Definitely not going to be getting the cylinder ported or anything, so I guess I’ll just have to go with what I got.

You can deck the top of the cylinder to get the squish right..80 grit laid on a piece of glass and a bunch of elbow grease will do it..Brent has shown the method quite a few times in his builds.
