Christopher,if your coil and cdi are working just leave them on there 'performance,racing coils etc' at best offer marginal gains over stock items tell us what you have and what you want to achieve and we will point you in the right direction.spend time watching the how to videos and make sure you up to date with servicing.

I’m sure the CDI is fine. But did you test the coil? It should pull current anywhere from 11.9 to 13.1 if not, it needs replaced. I know for a fact these (Coils) are common failure on 1e40qmbs and for 20-25 bucks for one that makes a better spark 16,000 compared to 31,000 it’s a better coil, this is the one from Naraku. My bike ran much better after install. Yours looks to be the 2-pin style.
Make sure your gas tank is clean, fuel lines/filters, petcock,carburetor components like jets, bowl are all in operational order before going and buying parts. Process of elimination will save you a lot of money. If the bike is 15 years old, low miles and sat in a garage for a long period of time, chances are the previous owner did not drain the tank.

Went through the carburetor and has a fresh tank of gas etc. Runs fine when cold, wil kick start in one or two kicks. Once warmed up it will die, restart easily continues, until it won't run then dies. Once it's good and warm it just quits running. After I get these issues sorted out I would like to derestrict the exhaust and airbox. Figured a good coil from some place Naraku wouldn't hurt and if that isn't it I would have a spare. What I thought was odd and want to check cold is there was no voltage on the coil leads hot after it quit running. Want to check it again cold while it runs to see what I'm getting.

I wanna say I’m 95% sure it’s a bad coil. Your symptoms you mentioned are almost exactly as mine. After the new coil was on not only did it cease the issue of shutting down after getting hot, starting again only when fully cooled down, the bike ran WAY better with a new coil. I put on a new CDI chasing my same issue but switched back to the stock one after I discovered the aftermarket one hurt my performance rather than any gain. The stock CDI on the 1e40qmbs are de-restricted and the only better CDI you will find is if you switch over to a very expensive inner rotor race ignition
