Hoping for any help! My moped had been sitting outside for about a year, even in the colder months (I live in Tennessee) at my apartment complex. Won't start, and here's what I've tried: - Battery was dead so I tried kickstarting, but no luck after trying to kickstart a few dozen times - Bought a new battery and fully charged it. - Replaced the sparkplug. - Added new gas...probably was a little old gas at the bottom I've attached a video of me trying to start the scooter. Any thoughts on what I can try next? Happy to take any additional videos if you need more details. Very grateful for anyone's assistance on this!! Thank you! -Dan www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJn7iuHCMx8

No mention of actually verifying spark? Try spraying some starting fluid into the intake manifold vacuum port, and carb bowl vent port (90° hose).

You may just need to adjust idle mixture.
Probably worth pulling the carb amd cleaning it. Probably also worth replacing the fuel filter and completely replacing the gas with new.

Odds are that the 'jets' in the carb are plugged. Their orifice is pretty low in the float bowl, so any fuel left in the bowl could cause blockage. A second possibility is the passage that feeds the choke(byvalve). There is a tiny orifice between the float bowl and the tube on the side of the float bowl. It allows fuel to slowly get into the enrichment circuit used at startup. If plugged, you will have no 'choke' function. If the idle mixture passage gets plugged, same story. No 'pop'. It is the screw on the left(viewed seated from above), if you have access. Some are plugged. If you do have access, tighten the screw fully GENTLY, counting the turns. Remove and clean. Replace, screw to the seated position, and unscrew the counted number from previous. The main and pilot jets can be poked with the wire from a wire brush. The main is large enough to see light when clean. The pilot is very small, and poking or blowing is the only way to check I know of. You can use a new spark plug to check the ignition system. Plug the plug into the spark plug wire, and crank. Look in a darkish place for spark. tom

I actually tested the spark plug (by putting the spark plug in the boot and holding the spark plug against metal while trying to start it) and there was no spark. And this is for the spark plug that I just bought new. I watched a video that said maybe it could be either the CDI, stator, or ignition coil that could be the issue. Would you agree that these are good things to try replacing next? Thanks again! -Dan

Does it have a sidestand ? Could be a switch there supposed to stop the engine when it's down, preventing you from driving with the side stand down. Check if that switch is working.

If you have electrical troubleshooting aptitude . . determine if AC-CDI or DC-CDI ignition system.

Great thought, but even with the kickstand up, I'm getting the same results. I'm not getting a spark in either of these cases: - when putting the sparkplug in the boot and holding it against metal while trying to start it - when putting a screwdriver in the boot and holding it against metal while trying to start it. I am in a dark garage and am still seeing no spark.

There's probably only two wires going to that switch. They are either meant to be shortcuted or not. Try both and se if you get spark. And I'm pretty sure your cdi is AC.

Does the pch have a kill switch under the seat? if it's unplugged that is why it has no spark . All SYM bikes (except HD200) have to have the seat switch plugged in to start. We just had the same problem in the shop tonight.
