As title says. Anyone have wiring that shows which wire goes to the factory tachometer? I finally got a 16mm mvt ignition that I wanted to just test on a stock bore 50cc with all bolt ons minus a big bore, Stock port timing and everything. This was more for cheap fun (minus the cost of the mvt) anyways I'm rambling.
I was wondering if anyone happens to know what wire it is? I believe it's the same speedo unit design as a vento triton but on the right portion it has a digital rpm gauge.
As I'm not entirely sure how I can get a reading from the mvt ignition to the tachometer to keep that function going on.

I don't have a wiring diagram that shows a Zip or Triton with a tach, because only the GT5 models had a tach (at least in years that I followed them before 4Ts).
Most tachs will work by tapping into coil positive or in some (aftermarket) cases wrapping a the tach signal wire around the spark plug wire something like 3-5 times.

Could I find a lead by checking out the wiring diagram of a gt5 model? And sadly it's kinda pointless now. The ignition crapped out. Was setting idle settings for the carb so it wouldn't stall Got it idling really good. And then it just died. No spark now.

You prob can find the original tach wire if you can find a GT5 diagram. Here’s a troubleshooting vid with the MVT in case it helps : youtu.be/buUEmdHxxXYInteresting project BTW. Keep us posted.

So quick test. Got power going to the cdi and the coil. So it looks like the cdi crapped on me 😑
Edit: spoke way too soon

Well! Silly me for getting upset and giving up at first sight of trouble .the culprit? A bad plug, when I pulled out the current one on it the spark was orange. Replaced it with another one and the spark came out nice and blue and the bike started right up.
Now to figure out the tachometer

Man I cannot for the life of me find a wiring harness showing which signal is the tach signal, it must've feed from the factory coil or cdi at some point but there's no separate connection I see from. The coil or the original cdi Taking apart the cluster was almost pointless too as it's all sealed up with no indication of what wire does what

I figured it out on the white and black wire there is a spliced piece that goes to the tachometer on the gauge. However I do believe it is reading higher than normal as what sounds like 1900 rpm idle is is 3200 but for some reason the higher the rpm the more clear it seems? I can't exactly do a test run at the moment as I can't bend my knees to ride the scooter from falling from the attic.but I hope this helps someone in the future that if they install an mvt ignition on a keeway matrix vento zip lithium or triton gt5 it's the white and black wire that connected to the cdi. In my vento zips case. The wiring underneath the floor pad where the alarm and cdi is usually held in

Not sure if it helps, but my short experience with more modern poop is limited. However, I have seen many, many 2T engines/ignitions with a GREY wire as a tach lead.
Some aftermarket tach's can condition that "pulse" and some cannot. The pulse can be different in both frequency and some other measure...brain farting.
The method that 90GTvert mentions above, is known as an inductive tachometer. Quite accurate, but the gauges are either ugly and cheap or expensive and cute.

Would a resistor of some sort even out the wrong rpm reading? What sounds like 1800 rpm for idle it states 3200 but when I Rev all the way for a quick above 7,000 its more accurate.

Before getting too deep into trying to fix the current tach, I'd put another tach on it temporarily if you have anything around. Maybe your perception of the idle is off or maybe RPM is off more than you think all over and it's really not worth saving. Stock tachs aren't always known to be accurate.

I just like the factory look of it is all. Lemme snag a video

youtu.be/a3skMqLfztkHere's a quick video showing what I mean. The bog at the end is from a clogged fuel filter from Guk sitting in the tank from the old fuel sensing unit that disintegrated inside the tank.
