Can't wait to see your LC build, these TGB engines are pretty awesome just air cooled, can't wait to see what that extra bit of power will do for ya!

Checked the plug with the new idle mix and needle setting. Looking good! Also tried to find out where the noise I heard came from but found nothing off with the CVT except this gash on the cover from a rock I guess the sound is just the uni air filter and I just started hearing it haha

Took it out for a short run.
Unfortunately all the empty long straight stretches of road run east-west and we have a 15 mile hour wind from the east atm. that said I still ran some times going east (into the wind) and it wasn't too bad
1/8 Mile: 12.5 seconds @ 41.6MPH 1/4 Mile: 22.5 seconds @ 49.7MPH
I still heard that noise. I can hear it when I let off the throttle, it seems to go with the 2 stroke noise if you understand what I mean. Pitch changes with RPM high pitch high RPM.
It happened after I rode on a bumpy road. I came home, checked the plug, reinstalled it and went off and it still made that noise. Well I thought to myself, maybe the boot came un"suctioned" if you will, that is the seal to the crankcase cover was lost and I was hearing the engine through that. I checked and it was indeed off and not fully on the spark plug. I will take it out tonight (provided no rain) to see if that was indeed what happened.

Ok so that was NOT the sound but I managed to get a clip of it. Can't be anything INSIDE the cylinder or crankcase right? surely would notice some loss of power at least facts: - I can hear it on both intake and exhaust sides
- Tied to RPM, engine sound overpowers so I can only hear when I back off the throttle
- Sounds to be coming from the engine itself
- Increases frequency with RPMs
- Absolutely no loss of power or any change in power or shifting or anything performance related.
You can hear it here, it hides "under" the engine sound so to speak: youtu.be/Z3arxA7n9zAAny help would be great =( it really gets narrowed down to something on the crankshaft. One Idea I have is the washers that I used to space the variator backing plate might be the rattly-echo sound. They might have lost their "grip" or might have deformed so to speak, slipping instead of holding torqued to the backing plate & starter gear. Will have to check.

Your engine will blow up in about 4 miles judging by the sound of that! Or not. Actually I hear a steady sort of clatter when you hold the camera toward the CVT at about 20 seconds. Is that the noise? Otherwise it sounds pretty normal to me.

the clatter are you just talking about the reeds slapping because I can usually hear that from the air filter.
It's a sort of hollow metallic sound I'm hearing almost like one of those waste gate dumping sounds from a turbo that kind of whirrs off if you know what I mean.
It's most evident at: 00:16 00:35
its a kind of lower pitched buzzing or something I can't really describe it. I would argue that it is normal EXCEPT this just started happening after I hit a few bumps on a road.
If its not the spacers come loose inside the CVT then I literally have no idea what else it could be.

Eureka! I took apart the variator side again, no dice everything is snug and torqued. Then I noticed the variator fan! I don't know if you can see it but the fan edges are flattened and have brushed metal look to them as if they've been scraped against something. I'm lucky they didn't break off! Hmm what could be rubbing against it though? It appears this The starter gear. It appears the combination of me shifting the variator out the crank 3mm AND hitting a bump knocking this guy closer makes the two rub. I already have removed the kickstarter part on the outside of the case, so there was nothing stopping that whole piece from moving inward. Now I want to know, how hard is it or how do I remove this piece from the CVT case? It appears as if its wounded up and under a lot of pressure. EDIT: nevermind, I've removed it, my hand hurts a little but I got'er'done The small gasket that went around the bolt in the middle of the CVT case split in half and one piece won't stick to it. Should I worry about replacing that? Definitely going to get a plug or something to fill the hole where the kickstarter went.

I havent had a full cvt gasket on my scoot in a number of months and have not noticed much dirt buildup.

Ok here's another idea I'm not sure about. There used to be a hose running from the crankcase vent cover to the airbox but I removed it. I feel like if I plugged it it would help the airflow to stay going out the bottom of the crankcase vent like its supposed to- I feel like hot air is just flowing out of that hole and around the engine. Am I correct in thinking this?

I can tell you from experience that, installing that wound up spring for the kick start is a beeeatttch!! I swear I was ready to burn mine one time, and swore I'd never take it backapart to clean it Lmao...skrew tjat shit...

I don't see myself ever needing the starter personally unless for whatever reason the starter gears just "fail" but I have no idea how that could happen.

So I picked up a plug for the hole, fits and works great! The bad news is thats not the noise! its still there! the good news is I think I know what it is: an exhaust leak! I found this gap on one side of the flange: Here's the stud removed: going to replace that lock nut with a lock washer and nut.

Yeah that will screw your engine up if you don't get that leak fixed,my brother fried a cylinder cause of a small leak!!!!
