If you cant find the break in the exciter and no replacement parts,,REWIND IT!!Strip off the old wire, measure the wire diameter(and approximate thickness of total wrapped coil before stripping off),find that wire size on Ebay or whatever and wind up a fresh one!!Remember more windings will give more juice,so pack it on,but not that it'll drag on the flywheel..Solder your connections and epoxy coat the final job..Lots of stuff on the web about folks rewinding their own stators,so dont be afraid, study up and DO IT!!!!!

That was cool for harry to send you that bulliten about the tape, see how that differs on the one I gave you I don't have engine hooked up but soon as I have time I'll post my readings even if you get it fixed before I get readings for you,as I'm recalling I think my stator has black tape not the blue so most likely mine is faulty,if you get a replacement stator from tgb let me know so I can contact the so I can get a new stator will do. Don't need the engine hooked up just need the stator out and a multimeter. Here's the wiring diagram sorry if it doesn't make sense. Have to remove the silicone from the stator but yours is dead anyways so... guessing you have the same problem. both yellow and orange coils and just the orange coils read like 0.6 ohm for me.

Took the insulating tape off (hence the "line" down the copper coil from the knife) does this look normal to you guys or was the coil starting to burn?

I'd like to do this but I'm having trouble stripping the old wire off. It's so thin that when I try to unwrap it it just breaks at the corners. Any ideas? Also something I noticed: in this vid of a R50x at around 6:40 you can see he's got a 4 pole stator! www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuTlwYjQlt8why would the british version of the R50x have a 4 pole stator? AFAIK these bikes are the same.

I think that the poles on the 4 pole are thicker and slightly bigger, the l.c italjet formula uses a 4 pole stator also so I think it will be fine

Yeah,The coil looks like it got hot..Dont worry with unwinding, measure the OD of the factory wrapped coil and wrap yours a bit bigger than that..Cut the old stuff off with a box knife.. Is the 4 pole exciter coil in the same location as the 6 pole?If not,you may have a 'phasing' issue there...

This is how the exciter coil lines up compared to the 8 pole one. It's slightly off. Will this cause a problem? the pickup coil is close to the other mounting hole.

Only way to know for sure is bolt it on and try it out..

this issue being the exciter coil is placed later in timing, so it might not have enough time to charge the CDI before the CDI receives the pickup coil signal right?

Right,I had to 'rephase' a KX85 iggy I installed on a Mina a few years ago.. The 4 pole may have a different flywheel magnet positioning to compensate for that design change..

thanks for all your help 190mech, really appreciate it.
If I install the 4 pole, what does a "phasing" issue look like? misfiring?

Jwhood, talking to harry about the 4 pole vs 8 pole stator question to see if he knows of a different flywheel or anything and this is what he sent me:
Now I'm REALLY confused.
I'm 100% sure that this scooter is (well was when I bought it) bone stock with the exception of the variator ring "restriction".
