Crazy weather over here. But I finally got 1 out of total 6 parts painted and polished. Last time i tried to sand the piece down with 1500 grid and apply 2 coats of clear. But in the sanding process i fucked up and removed some of the color on the edge so I decided to redo the whole thing. So again sand it down to it's naked, grey (gray?) plastic and then applied the primer again and this time i did sand the primer smooth with 600 grid as runninbuck recommended. I also know why I got the rough surface last time, not only poor prep work but also poor execution. When applying the color coats my angle was way to small. This time I painted the edges first, let them dry good and then put the piece standing so that I could spray paint straight on the surface without any angle and this time I think I nailed it. Not a perfect surface but way better then my first try. After 3 coats of color and 3 coats of clear I left it to dry for at least 24 hours. Lastly I wet-sanded(incl. soap) down very gently the finished piece with 2000 grid and then applied the rubbing compound polisher. And this is the result I got. I also went for a little bit darker red this time since the other one was too orange-ish.

Thanks Brent! It looks really great, in real. Kinda hard to catch that with the camera though. That is why I took pictures with flash (both on the left) and without flash (both on the right) but still it won't catch the shine very well. Now let's hope I get similar good results for the other 5 parts. From tomorrow on weather suppose to be nice and warm so I will try to paint some of the bigger parts.

looks great the more prep work you get done the better the finish it takes time to get it right but we are not pro's so our handy work is good enough as long as you are happy with the job who cares what others say , as I once was told by a painter that helped me learn "it is used not new so its not going to be perfect "

Thanks
This time i took my time with it. There are on both parts that i did so far very thin scratches visible if you go look closer. It seems to be impossible to remove them with the rubbing compound and by just scrub by hand. Tried to use the buffer i bought for the drill but it's very difficult to hold the part in one hand and apply light pressure with the drill. So i guess i'll have to wait until all parts are painted and put back on the scooter first and then i will buff more thorough.

It's been a while since I posted any updates here... To paint the following 3 W must be in good balance. Weather, Wife and Will. 6 months....man that took long. If I ever would consider to paint parts or a whole scooter again I would hire a pro next time and save me the trouble. Anyway I finally got everything painted and mounted. Here pics of the front panel and the result how the scooter looks at this moment. Now I can finally drive it and start adjusting the Mainjet and CVT for the BBK.
