I don't know how I missed this topic. Very cool ideas indeed. Mcgyver ain't got nuthin' on you. When the reserve fuel tank gets low does the oil light come on?

No. I can't remember the reason why but the 'low oil' light doesn't work. When I swap over I know it's time to get gas ASAP.

Broken lower ring, chipped piston between lands. Could not find the rest of the ring. :jaw: Where ring snagged ex. prt. maybe from running too hard too soon.... piston expanded before iron cyl. had a chance to. Underside Was ready for rings. 0.030" gap on remaining top ring. Asso piston #2853. Carbon deposits. Cyl. views. I'm going to go with a new pist., rings and little end bearing. Where is a good place to find these?

It looks like the lower ring maybe was getting thin and finally let go,look carefully inside the pipe for that missing ring part.If you cant find that exact piston perhaps it can be crossed over to a more common type..47mm,10mm pin? What is the pin height?

As the second photo perhaps doesn't show so well there was heavy pushing of metal on the bottom edge of the ex. prt. Something interesting is that I could not find back clearance anywhere in the lower groove with the broken piece. The same broken piece showed back clearance in the upper groove.

I think your right about the "cold choke" or running WOT too soon. The combo of that with tired rings got ya all snagged up!

Checking clocer today with the ring turned the normal way I find back clearance.

This kit has a slightly wider bore than usual - 48mm. This TP piston won't even go into the old 47.6mm AIRSAL jug I have.

My TP kit piston has a compression height of 26mm. That piston seems to have a bit higher ch. Where are the numbers when you need them?

Yeah, that does look a bit taller. Sorry, just not coming up with much for 48mm piaggio.
