So am I insane to think that $465 is a low price for that thing even in fair shape?
That SR50 I just sold had that marble effect on some of the black un-painted plastics. The sun really plays hell on that stuff. I tried scotch brite pad lightly with soap and water and then a bunch of coats of armor all but it didn't help much. Can you paint that stuff?

A Polini is just a rebranded carb, who really makes it?Bet it could be had for less without the 'middleman'.. Then call it a NizCarb!!

Yes Fox I thought the exact same thing about the price. The gray plastics look to be the same as the ones on the SMC flip scoot and they painted up nicely.

I guess it's just that some business minded people tend to think about things similarly but I have been thinking about finding some parts to import that could be re-branded just like the other guys do. I thought I found what was basically an Over Range vari from a Taiwan manufacturer a couple weeks ago but after some homework it wasn't what I thought it was. I am a big fan of Tim Ferriss (author of 'The 4 Hour Workweek' and lots more) and share the views his book preaches so I always the search for products in the back of my mind. The reason I really want that Polini carb is I read it's not your typical scoot carb and a few guys on spreenet were really enthusiastic about it. Of course one of them is the importer/seller ScooterSwapShop guy. They mentioned it cooled better and they were actually dropping like 20 jet sizes using it (I'm assuming they were using open filters which btw I think I might get one since my space is really limited and I liked the one on the Prebug after I got it tuned). IDK know if it's something about the needle design or whatever- I think the needle is a special design with golf ball-like divots?- but anyway I've been really wanting that Polini carb now. I'd love to find it's 'non-badge' origination!

If you want to try a 21mm Dell clone, let me know. I just got 2 of them from feebay for about $38 each. I got some jets and slides too. The only thing I have noticed about the Dell clones, is they need to be cleaned up good before you use it. They have scraps leftover from milling inside of them sometimes.

I'll keep that option in mind!

Digging into her now! Looks race-ready! I didn't like the fact that you can't just disconnect the engine and pull the mounting bolt and roll it out from under the scoot like usual, but you have to disconnect the exhaust first as it's threaded through a square hole in the frame. That also means that I can't rebuild the engine exhaust and all and install it- One has no choice but to re-install the exhaust while the engine is in the scoot. Just seems like poor design.... I don't see any restrictions per se in the exhaust, but the design of it itself seems like the restriction? with the step-down near the manifold end. The outlet seems pretty small too- roughly 13mm. Almost seems a shame not to throw a 70cc BBK and exhaust on this and let it scream! I've read these stock piggy cranks are practically bulletproof.

How's the crank, any play in it?? Happy to say the crank seems great. Just the slightest of side-to-side play- totally acceptable, and absolutely zero front/back play!

So I noticed this cylinder doesn't make use of the extra 'port' on the engine... A 'detune' of some sort? What is that 'port' on the engine for anyway? I can't really tell where it leads to... Just for fun here's the Minarelli 49cc cylinder and Derbi/piaggio side by side with the Piaggio base gasket layed on the mina cylinder. Pretty similar.

Cylinder seems to be in pretty good shape. I'll give it a little 'hand hone' like I usually do. I gapped the rings and got .008 on the copper colored (top) ring and got .016 on the silver (lower) ring. I don't know my ring gap #'s very well yet as it's something I just recently started performing, but does that sound right? One rings gap is double the other one?? I'll have to look up the tech info about this...

Ok I found the handy dandy ring-gap calculator in the tech section and it says my ring gaps should be .006. Like I said I just started checking ring gaps recently and didn't pay much attention to it before unless I was trying to solve some low compression issue but maybe I'll check a few more rings I have laying around and see if I can come up with a better set.

Meh- these Piaggio rings are thicker and beefier than the Minarelli ones I have and the mina rings just seemed sloppy in the ringlands so I'm just leaving the rings in the way they are. The piston looks fine- not dirty or showing any blow-by or anything so I think they'll be fine. From the vid the seller posted of this scoot running it seemed more like a carb tune issue than anything.

Quick cylinder 'hand hone'. This hand hone method I learned from a 190mech post has always treated me well, but I really need to get myself some ball hones lol.
