A dry fit of the cylinder with head gasket and no base gasket at a wide 1.57mm. Without the head gasket I'm getting a still wide but much better average of about 1.10mm. The base gasket looks to be about .20mm so I would seemingly get a dry squish measurement of 1.30 with it. I'll go my usual route with no base gasket and no head gasket...

That port at the bottom on the engine case is where the waterpump would go if u converted to liquid cooled, bad design if you ask me but who am i,here is a link for you might give you some good info, minus the l.c part..... bigbnrg.blogspot.com/2011/05/in-this-post-i-will-show-you-build-of.html?m=1p.s sorry i hit thanks by accident,u shouldnt be able too thank your own post!!! Interesting- I never would've guess the water pump goes in there. I guess it makes sense now that I see this pic from the link you gave:

These tamper-proof bolts really got me curious about this 'reed restriction'. I knocked the little nub in the center back and forth with a tiny screwdriver until they (mostly) broke off and opened up the reed area to have a look. I don't know if i see a restriction per se but I do see a sweet design with the reed cage angled toward the transfers kinda like the Vino ones Oldgeek showed. I can see how these Piaggio engines would make a sweet screamin' build! I guess the 'restriction' could be considered how small the reedblock and intake areas are compared to the gaping opening in the case?

Yeah those little humps to the left and right are air restrictions, and i would grind them down some,if your getting deep in tuning or if its gonna be a flip just leave it as is!!!

Ok I found the handy dandy ring-gap calculator in the tech section and it says my ring gaps should be .006. Like I said I just started checking ring gaps recently and didn't pay much attention to it before unless I was trying to solve some low compression issue but maybe I'll check a few more rings I have laying around and see if I can come up with a better set. The numbers from the calculator are initial settings. There would be a published service limit for max gap. On the big Minas I end up running beyond the service limits though, as long as compression isn't suffering noticeably. Most of the 40mm stuff is around 0.010" per Japanese and Euro manuals, but some of the Chinese stuff goes well beyond that for a service limit. I think you'll be alright with it as-is, just check compression to be sure when it's together. p.s sorry i hit thanks by accident,u shouldnt be able too thank your own post!!! If it bugs you, you can just click the thumbs up again and it will un-like it.

I guess it doesn't have the needle divots I was thinking of. I may have been thinking of this Yoshi carb that has some special needle..

A true flat slide Yoshi carburetor, not a D-slide.. Looks like I could use my OKO jets in there, no? Thats wonderful I must have one.

I have the top end all buttoned back up and now it's time to dig into this CVT! I'm certainly excited about the prospect of aquiring some Piaggio parts to complete a 'poor man's Over range' for my own scooter- but I need to try to sort out what fits where between this and a Minarelli...

The PO has already bypassed the oil injection system so instead of trying to piece it all back together I'm just going to leave this scoot as 'pre-mix only'. I'll remove the little oil pump drive belt. Wow seems scary to rely on that belt system for the health of your engine! Maybe it's better than the Mina gear drive system? IDK but it looks fragile lol. I dug into the CVT and all I can say is HOLY OVERSIZED CVT PARTS BATMAN! I know Brent has put together a ton of info on the subject of Piaggio CVT parts already ( HERE) but to see the size difference in person is dramatic! Piaggio rear clutch/pulley next to Mina rear clutch/pulley: The roller weights are so huge they almost look comical! Here's 15x12, 16x13, and Piaggio 19x15.5 (wow!) I don't have a GY6 vari to compare to but I think they fit this? Now to go make some popcorn and watch Brent's feature length video on this subject beginning to end.

I was quite impressed when I got the 134mm pulley as well. Shame it won't fit the Minarelli in stock form.

Piaggio and minarelli engines are the most common here in Holland.
I like piaggio over minarelli due to some design features like a better angled reed and bigger cvt parts. A stock piaggio engine with only a Yasuni R added can do up to 80/85 km/u @gps.
In competition closed circuit racing you'll see 90% piaggio based scoots (piaggio zip mostly) and here and there a minarelli based yamaha jog.
In dragracing they match up quite okay although it seems pll prefer piaggios over minarellis.

the belt drive doesn't look too bad but is it easy to get to? Would there be a way to tell if it snaps? or I guess your to change it when you change the CVT Belt.
