the belt drive doesn't look too bad but is it easy to get to? Would there be a way to tell if it snaps? or I guess your to change it when you change the CVT Belt. I worked as a scooter mechanic for a few years and saw lots of piaggio based scooters. But never saw one with a broken oilpump belt. They look fragile and when they break you're done, but it rarely happens. Myself I would rather use premix though. I won't let the fate of my time and energy consuming engine rely on that little belt which can wear or can snap or whatever. But if it's a stocker and you have time and a little money in stock you should just go with the belt.

Piaggio want you to come run to them when the belt breaks and your engine locks up so they can charge you for a new engine or rebuild

1st test run= unsuccessful. It'll idle fine but give it any throttle and it just bogs to death and dies. This scoot had the smallest main jet in a carb I've seen so far- a 60! The carb was air restricted though and I swapped it out for a 49cc stock Mikuni with a 75 main jet. I'll start playing with jet sizes now and see if I can get this baby to run!
On a side note- I'm a cherry picking fool when it comes to these flip scoots and I've picked the 17.5 Dell carb and Piaggio rear clutch/pulley out of this one. The final drive ratio is @12:1 and I've swapped a Chinarelli rear pulley with pre-bug clutch and the Piaggio bell with a 780mm Bando belt! lol it's all pieced together but everything seems to be working fine together. If I can get a respectable speed out of it then I get to keep the huge piggy pulley to play with! I'm thinking of piecing together the Piaggio pulley with the Polini clutch and bell for "poor mans Piaggolini over drive" for my 90cc.

Theese carbs which comes with piaggio stock engines, like your's, are not 12mm they are Dell'orto 17.5mm difusor, so, i suggest get back to that carb, and upjet it

Ya I've mentioned a few times now that it had a Dell 17.5 but that I removed it to keep for myself and replaced with a stock Mikuni...

2nd Test run= Success! It took some tinkering and figuring but the 2nd test run went great. This thing rips pretty well for a 49cc! I must say that I really hate this stock air box. It wraps itself back around the carb to the point that it obscures the a/f screw and idle screw. How in the heck are you supposed to fine tune the carb that way?? After some tinkering and main jet changes I started to have my doubts about this air box. I mean- I have enough experience getting these things running to know something just wasn't right. I tried a 75 and 80 main jet with bad results when I was about to change the main jet again I decided to pop on an extra Minarelli rear facing air box I have. Boom runs perfect! The airbox actually almost fits in there and with a little tweaking I bet it would look like it was stock... As far as the CVT goes it couldn't have worked out better! I figured with the 12:1 ratio it wouldn't hurt things much to substitute a smaller Mina rear pulley in there for the larger Piaggio one and I was right! 37mph GPS. Not bad for a 49cc with smaller than stock rear pulley! The variator is actually set up practically perfectly for good take-off since the original Piggy belt is 18mm wide, there's plenty of room for a 17mm Bando to get down onto the drive boss nicely. That's usually the problem I'm always fighting with is not enough space to get the belt down on the boss and it's perfect in this scenario! Maybe curiosity will get the better of me during this flip and I will put the CVT parts back to stock to see just how fast a stock (unrestricted) 49cc Derbi Atlantis is....

You can see in the previous post how bad this seat looked ^^^^. I got a yard of material at Walmart for $5 and after some stretching, stapling, more stretching, and trimming, the seat looks brand new!

Washing some parts... I'm quite upset- i tried this new Krylon paint "cover MAXX" and it all bubbled up! I guess the lesson here is stick with what works...

You win some, you lose some. At least you've learned something!

Yep that paint goes in the 'fail' pile. Hopefully the next color doesn't give me any hassles. Painting some Derbi parts....

Well shoot- here's an interesting development; the kid that just bought the last zuma stopped by with his dad when they saw me out in the garage and his dad wants to buy the Derbi! Well I started on the paint scheme and I hate to spoil the surprise haha but I was planning on doing a Derbi Bullet paint job like this: I was planning on painting the rims this fluorescent yellow color along with some parts of the body but he said he'd rather keep the rims silver... Hmm... I already started the top cowl with the crazy yellow so there's no turning back now! Kinda bummed because I was excited to see this paint scheme!

If you do end up using the fluorescent paint, let us know what you think. I've wanted to paint either wheels or a frame very bright for a long time now, but I'm so stuck on the black and dark stuff. Afraid the fuzz with see me doing my usual dumb stuff easier lol, and a lot of the paints I saw locally didn't sound like they were intended for sorta heavy duty uses like wheels and bare frames.

Honestly this fluorescent paint I got from Ace probably isn't meant for heavy duty use, but I tend to use a thick coat of clear on most stuff so it hasn't been an issue. I was helping a buddy shop for powder coating supplies a while back and they some crazy stuff nowadays! All different colors and looks- even pearls etc... Another buddy told me about some Bulldog prep stuff he used when he painted his Jeep rims and said he didn't use it until the last two rims and those two rims are holding up great while the other two show signs of chipping... Here we go: www.wmbarr.com/bulldog/default.aspxLooks like I'll be using the silver rim paint on this scoot, but here's a sneak preview of the body panels! The camera just makes it look yellow but it's fluorescent!
