If ya all caught the BS in Fox's bathroom repair thread, I'll update. Didn't want to hijack. My recently purchased house is 95 years old. It was until a few months ago slated for the wrecker but the deal for the property went through, a retirement community developer thing. So I bought the house a couple months ago. Some family history here, so meant a lot to me. Day after Thanksgiving the previous owner emails me copies of a letter from the city inspector they just got , Demanding the house be painted, a new roof, and the garage torn down...by Jan. 11. Mind you it's 12 degrees out there right now. So I went down to talk to the Man today, I have authority figure issues, I had to work up to it. So far they are working with me on this. I have several permits to buy to show good faith, including one for my scooter shed(building permit, LOL), which also has to be moved behind the house..my dog pen/fence permit, roof construction permit, garage raising permit. I did not mention my new back door, or it would have added another permit to the list. I don't need a permit to paint I have to make a map showing my fence line, and where the shed will be moved to, and write the boss inspector a letter outlining my plans and time table. And I should have till the end of next summer to complete the work "if" they agree. Will know after the permits, plans and letter are looked over. Kissing much booty. I feel like I've had a home invasion.

Apparently chipped paint is against a city municipal code here. So Yup. I did ask if color choices were controlled here and he said no, so I got that going for me.

I hope they cooperate. Hang on, do you need a permit to post about your permits? :stumped:

Put some black lights under the rain gutters or roof overhang if you do that so it's obnoxious day and night.

Heu Goosey, That is why I am not a town building inspector anymore.. The total crap they they make peopel do is so BS. The would tell someone that they needed to put a new roof on when it was about 3 to 6 grand for a new roof if you can get it for that. These folks did not have that kind of money what the heck. All they wanted was that piece of paper.. Not all permits cost money but it was the principle. The town we lived in has a histarical district and they had one house that they would not let the owner put a new railing around his porch which was a code issue. They would not let him put it up cause it was a histerical district. Go figure. After almost 4 years they laid me off which sucked but I was ready to leave it was that bad.. So I really sympathis with you..

Oh, man. Did I have some stress related nightmares last night. Involved water filling the basement, floating on old doors, funny though I was checking out the doors for vintage door knobs...and angleworms comeing out of the floorboards. That was the light stuff. Couldn't begin to describe the wierd things my brain came up with, LOL. Dropping off money and paperwork Monday.

All the paperwork is in. The people down there seem pretty nice. They were very helpful, and answered my questions repectfully. The scooter shed is kind of silly, it only has to be moved back about 10' to be legal. Once the roofless garage is gone I'll slide it back on the slab. Not quite behind the line of the back of the house right now. The garage permit fee may be waved, since they asked that I remove it. Guy said I could use the money to better use on repairs. I agreed. Waiting on my final tally of permit fees and hoping for a reasonable time frame for the roof/paint/garage tear down..end of summer 2011?

Good luck with it. I was expecting a much more frustrated post after that visit. Glad I was wrong.

i wish you the best of luck goosey. all they care about is getting that money out of your pocket, not at all about the finances of the person they're taking it from.

I kind of get the idea I havn't talked to the boss yet. But the 3 people I've dealt with were good people. Didn't get the B.S. meter going in my head. Not sure what else I can do, blood from a turnip you know. Using logic on them and hope they use some common sense. :scared:
