Sweet, I just checked my email and the inspector waived the razing fee of $95 for the garage, and looks like everything is good! Just gotta give em a check for the permits on the roof, fence, and the building permit for the shed ( also did not get a double fee on the shed for building it without a permit, yea! ), and wait for spring to start workin my bumm off P.S. Thanks for a friendly place to vent, and the good will from all you guys. Well, now I spoke too soon. I checked my phone messege's. Yea, now they want the roof, garage, and painting done by June 1st. They just thought working through to sept. was just too long, Argh Still better than Jan. 11, but I really needed those summer months to have the time, guess they didn't understand the term "low income working single mom". Ah well, I will sweat it when it gets here and do what I can. I sent a request to extend the deadline to July. So, what do they do to me if I can't meet the deadline? the letter didn't say :stumped:

Mostly it's a problem with the time required. I work at a Subway restaurant, the only people that can fill in for me on vacation are all in school, makes June a problem. I could ask the owner to fill in for me, but that would not be good for assorted reasons. And my kids can help paint, once school is out...I pretty much agreed to get the garage down, people, hammers, and a party , and begged for another month for my roof and painting. I'll have the money for the roof, and some bodies to help, just don't think I can get it done on my saturday off ya know? I really do need the roof done, LOL. It's pretty bad. I don't want to let it go another rainy summer either. Waiting to hear what begging gets me OH, I did like that black light idea , but I'm thinking a "barn red" with white trim. I have a square house with kind of barn shape to my roof line, it'll look neet, be legal, yet still bug the neighbors :thumb:

I have all my permits in order, and it looks like logic doesn't fly with these guys. June 1st it is. I started working on the windows for now. I am pulling in a couple at a time and scraping, caulking, and painting those. A lot of them were wrecked so I am piecing good glass from busted ones and putting it in good frames...need to pick up some more scrapers, some of that can be done outside when it's not too bad out. Current Temp, 14 degrees.

Here's an update on my progress. Since this started, my soon to be X filed for divorce, the friendly city inspector has given me a reprieve on the roof, understanding where all my roofing $ went to, lawyers. Now that gives me to June 1 to get my house painted, and the garage torn down, and move the scooter shed back on the slab. Picture one is the house today. This month we've had temps in the 20-30's, flooding rain last week (tornadoes missed us), and now snow again. This is my house not getting painted. I did get a pressure washer, kinda cold for the water though, LOL. Tried an electric scraper, I plugged it in and it was on...ate my shirt right off, good thing I had on something under it I don't like that machine much. Sticking to a scraper and the pressure washer. This is my $400 dumpster I have for one more week. This is the roofless garage, and the roofing and shingle under the snow. If I can get the shingle into the dumpster, the wood can go to other things...I took out the roof in the back section day before yesterday, and dug through the snow for the shingle untill I couldn't find it any more yesterday. A great way to work out frustration. Last month I had one of the city guys parked in front of my house with his clip board, said he was just checking on my progress, it was 20 degrees outside. All I could say was, Really? The X got on the phone and called the Mayor, and the City Planner and gave them his thoughts on the matter, LOL, don't know if that's gonna work in my favor. So, first thing is get the shingle into the dumpster. Trying to get a couple hours in a day after work. Friends coming this weakend, Saturday, rain ( better than snow right?), Sunday should be ok. Hope to get the walls down. I have 5 weakends off after this weak to work on my painting, I might make it. Have a 3 gallon sprayer. Since my time frame is getting shorter I decided to just go white again, as a primer, and to get the inspectors approval, then later get my barn red on later. The neighbor (a city council member) who complained/abused power should like that. I've been looking at yard gnomes..... The roof will have to wait till the divorce settlement mid summer.

The house was built in 1929, my late stepdad was raised here. I used to play here when I was a kid when I lived down the road. I think half my life I've lived on this street, so when my Mom offered it to me for a reasonable price I took it. It'll get there. It didn't look that bad before I started on the paint with the pressure washer on the 2 nice spring days I had so far. I worked on fixing and painting the storm windows I could find over the winter. From what the X said, the neighbors biggest complaint was that the shed was built in the wrong place...3 feet up too far to be behind the house, LOL. I did like living in the country, sigh. I have to get the top step on that porch jack hammered out and re poured, it's pushing the porch apart. Then I want to do field stone on the porch. Dark red, white trim, fieldstone? New roof. Can you picture it?

I think we'd all be out there helping you if we could! I'm half tempted to take the Ninja up your way just to help out. (Well, if it would stop snowing, raining, hailing, sleeting, being cold, etc.) What exactly would the city guys do if June came around, and it was still 30 degrees and snowing? From the looks of things so far this year, that may end up being the case!
