Great forum, saw a few of the videos and figured I could get some help here as a first time scooter fiddler. So I was given a 2010 TaoTao 50cc with 3400km (I think not miles right, since its chinese) that does not start up just turns over like this guys: youtu.be/-QfEQeOBwKo?t=42sThe battery seems good the headlights and signals work aside from body damage and scuffs some lights out it seems okay. I would like to know how to identify a few things to properly work on this to get it running, to begin with the model how do I get to know what exactly the model is, from vin#? So far I have taken almost all of the body panels (I seem to have that model where you needed to remove the entire body panels to get to valves didnt just work with removig seat like the other videos) apart which took a while, put in a spark plug NGK part 4629 c7hsa (the original tt 5005 a7t7 one was black is that to rich or lean), have also adjusted the valves according to the info above the vin said .06 and .07. I am planning on taking out the carb which has some unconnected hoses like the guy in the video I need to figure out what they are, and am planning on changing the oil is 10-w30 ok should it be synthetic or other wgt., gear oil, 75w90 acceptable? couple of bulbs not working, the glass fuse and the other pdi recommendations, dielectric grease etc... I do really want to see if I can get this going as it would be a fun little project and educational I would also like to get driving a scooter, I would like to get as much adjusted as possible as I would rather not have to remove the panels over before trying to crank it up again and so am here to hopefully get it going on the first try. Any help will be welcome.

Usually if the prominent display of speed is in km/h then the odometer is km as well. If it's in MPH the odo is miles. Most Chinese units are off a bit, so it's not totally accurate either way. The first hose in the vid coming off of the carb is a vent, usually to atmosphere. Usually if a hose is coming from the bottom of the fuel tank it's a fuel supply hose. After seeing the hole in your intake, I'm thinking that hose's nipple may have been in your intake. That would be a vacuum source. If the scooter has a vacuum petcock (most do stock) you'd see it mounted to the tank or sometimes to the frame. In that case the hose prob went from the intake to the petcock. Without that you won't get any fuel. You'd also need to replace the intake, because you'll have a vacuum leak where the hole is. You can get intakes for these super cheap on eBay. The second hose with the metal end is a remote bowl drain. It should go to the bottom of the carb. If the screw in the carb bowl beside it is left open, then that remote drain can be used to drain the bowl. Usually they have a tab with a hole in them so they can be attached to the CVT cover via one of the existing bolts. In addition to potential fuel and vacuum issues, it sounds like the engine is not actually turning over, but the starter bendix is spinning. The starter bendix is under the CVT cover and it's what allows the electric starter to engage the front pulley to rotate the engine for starting. One like your scooter should use is shown and explained HERE. They are also usually pretty cheap on eBay or a parts site. There are bushings in the case and CVT cover that each end of the bendix rides in. Sometimes they fall out or get worn so the bendix is excessively loose and it won't function properly. Sorry if some of this info is not related. Not 100% sure on how much of the stuff in the vid applies to you. As far as the model of scoot, you can try posting a pic here or go to TaoTao.Us or a TaoTao dealer's site and see if you can find your model looking at their pics.

It's alive:) So after putting in some fresh oil, gear oil and ethanol free gas with some lucas treatment and some stabilizer it works on kickstart and fired up within a couple of kicks, I had the warm tingly feeling when I saw the fuel filter getting gas to it, knowing the petcock was fine and dandy. Def. couldn't of done it without your videos, Brent, kudos and all the other help on the intersnet! For some reason the electric start is still not working and now it isnt even making that noise its just flat dead it does start all the time with the kickstart though, can I continue running it that way or will it damage anything? I accidentally crossed the battery wires when replacing the battery could that of killed the starter? I was also surprised to see the headlight and taillight work without the battery when I cranked it up without the battery why is that? Also when I let go of the throttle it seems to slow down quite fast, not like applying the brakes but just decelerates rather then glide is this normal or just due to the weight of the scooter, I dont hear any noise or anything else it idles well too. You are right about the 1st hose on the carb, it is just a vent as is on mine, there's no hole in my intake that was just a video I saw on youtube with the same type of noise mine was making. When I took out the carb it def had some mods done as the bottom 3 screws were already replaced, the a/f screw was also replaced and the jets were 82 and 34 those arent stock are they, maybe the entire carb is replaced I put up some pics you can id; the pin on top also had 5 levels on it where the washer had been in the middle already. I have not taken the CVT off to look at the bendix or anything. two hoses I dont know about the first is just above the brake line tis a short black piece that is hacked off, lower right and this still dont know what model though Last I bought some tygon 3/16 fuel line but it was way too small and I couldnt get the tube to expand even after I tried to use some needle nose pliers to open it up would not fit in anything not fuel filter not carb nothing I thought this was the size so I had to put in some prestone windshield hose since its not specifically for gas should I replace with tygon 5/32 I just couldnt find it in my stores may have to get online And should I consider replacing the original air this www.amazon.com/FILTER-Chinese-100cc-GO-KART-POCKET/dp/B007IKOX7Q/ref=pd_rhf_sc_p_img_1

I accidentally crossed the battery wires when replacing the battery could that of killed the starter? You prob blew the fuse when you crossed terminals. You can kickstart it, but the kickstarts on these aren't great and tend to fail with much use I was also surprised to see the headlight and taillight work without the battery when I cranked it up without the battery why is that? The headlgiht and tail light are powered by AC from the stator, not DC from the battery. Also when I let go of the throttle it seems to slow down quite fast, not like applying the brakes but just decelerates rather then glide is this normal or just due to the weight of the scooter, I dont hear any noise or anything else it idles well too. The CVT is still engaged so you get engine braking, unlike putting a transmission in neutral or holding the clutch when coasting. It has prob been replaced. Could be stock jets in a replacement carb. two hoses I dont know about the first is just above the brake line tis a short black piece that is hacked off, lower right and this There seem to be pics missing. still dont know what model though Looks like a fairly typical Chinese scooter style. www.scrappydogscooters.com/classic_beauty_chassis.htmlLast I bought some tygon 3/16 fuel line but it was way too small and I couldnt get the tube to expand even after I tried to use some needle nose pliers to open it up would not fit in anything not fuel filter not carb nothing I thought this was the size so I had to put in some prestone windshield hose since its not specifically for gas should I replace with tygon 5/32 I just couldnt find it in my stores may have to get online I would move up to a size of fuel safe hose that fits your connections. You can use heat to make the end of a hose more supple, but you absolutely cannot do this on used components or while the hose is attached to the scooter and fuel system. Obviously that would be a fire hazard. You may be able to pick a length of hose that works, then heat both ends or whichever end won't fit and quickly install.

Which fuse do you mean, the fuse on the battery is still intact or fuse elsewhere

The fuse near the batt was the one I expected to blow. Most Chinese scoots don't have fuse boxes/panels. Have you got no power at all with the key on/engine off?

Yes there is power with the battery and key on without starting the engine.

See if there's power at the starter relay and going out of the starter relay to the starter.

It started up perfectly when I tried it just now, I'm not sure what the problem was as I did not make any other adjustments, but the electric start works now.

Looks like the same model I had for a short time. Mine was a Peace Sports (Bashan) "Biella". 4t 139QMB. I get fuel line from Autozone for less than $1 a foot. I can't remember if that scoot had it, but some scooters have a kill switch wired into the side kickstand. If the side kickstand is down it won't start. I think the starter will still engage? It's easy to tell if it has this "safety feature": just put the side kickstand down while the scoot is running and if it immediately shuts off you have the kill switch! Here's the flip thread for that scoot: 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/11212/flip-peace-sports-biella-retro

Yeah it very much looks like that but this one has marks and bumper stickers scratches and busted lights on it but it is running perfectly well could flip it for like 500-600 still lol. Whats that you use on the chrome would it work on rusted exhaust pipe or just need to sand it down, and go with rustoleum, did you do glossy black on that one.

I buff the chrome parts with a buffung pad in a cordless drill with headlight restore compound. They sell the headlight restore kits at any auto store and walmart too. Any exhaust would have to painted with high-heat paint. I like the Rustoleum high heat Grill paint.
