Lucass2TSo back home.... You made me very curious regarding this 5BM engine so I went and looked at my 2 Jogs that I have. I have a red Jog with BBK and a silver Jog stock setup. Now here are Images of the engine types. Red Jog Silver stock Jog I always wondered why the silver Jog was faster and stronger from the takeoff then the red one when I didn't had the BBK on it yet. Now I know the answer 5BM is the difference. So in short I put the BBK on the wrong engine! You wanna tell me that all 5BM engines are trenched/ported like oldgeeks images? The reed valves are also angled like that? I went to the local bike shop guy and had a chat about that engine. Here in Japan you can order the casings brand new. They are still available in large quantities. Official Selling Price is; Crank case (product code: 5BM-15110-10) (large pieces) 24192 Yen (approx. 181 Euro / 202 USDollar) Crank case (product code: 5BM-15120-01) (stator side) 11988 Yen (approx. 89 Euro / 100 USDollar) I don't know how much the shipping to Europe is though. You can also get many Yamaha engine used on the yahoo auction platform there you can get complete engines for $60 up to $250 bucks. So now I am thinking of swapping the engines. Luckily I ordered a complete gasket set for the Polini BBK when I ordered it at scootertuning.ca If I would wanna swap the whole cylinder, piston and head what else needs to be replaced? Needle bearing? Circlips to hold the piston pin in place?

A 5SU engine??? Really curious if they are the same as the 5BM. But yeah the 5BM should be as in oldgeeks photos.

I don't think that the 5SU engine is same. I took the reeds out of that once and they were straight not angled.

On my way to work this morning I came past a bike shop. They have a tiny scrap yard with many old broken down scooters which seems they use as spare parts or stock yard before they going to be crushed. Anyway when I was driving by I spotted this here and I wanted to take a closer look at it because who knows it might be a 5BM case...? Yes! It is a 5BM case. Holy what a coincidence. At lunch I'm gonna go talk and see what he wants for it. There is gears missing and crank case cover but I think all those things you can find later or swap from the current Scooter. So either I am just really lucky or you indeed can find many of those 5BM cases over here.

An update on the 5BM engine... I went and had a chat with the bike shop guy and I asked him. Me: "What is gonna happen to those scrap scooters out there?" He: "They are for spare parts and the ones that are more or less in one piece go to foreign countries. And the rest gets crushed." Me: "If you would sell an engine from there how much would you sell it for?" He: "Which engine are you talking about? Show me...." *walking to the scrappy scooters* Me: "This one, the Jog one." He: "I can't give you the frame because of the serial number but the rest below you can have." Me: "How much you want for it?" He: "If you removed it yourself it's yours." Me: "What you mean? For free?" He: "Yeah, sure. I can't sell this stuff anyway just take what you need." I will go pick up that engine tomorrow or the day after. Yes! For F.R.E.E.! 5BM baby! Man I am so lucky with this whole scooter stuff. First I get a complete set of panels for free now an engine. Man I hope my luck won't run out anytime soon.
