Hi, this is my first post. I was sent here from Reddit. I plan on disassembling and pulling out the fork assembly this weekend to get a better look - I'll post those pictures when I do. These are pictures of damage caused by the wheel rubbing against the chassis. Does this kind of damage suggest a bent fork? Does this type of wheel rubbing suggest the scooter was in an accident? I bought this scooter on craigslist and the guy did not disclose that the scooter had been in an accident. Thanks for all your help

Here's a nut I hand tightened that did not help with the rubbing: i.imgur.com/OKJcNxd.jpg
Here's two pictures of the whole bike: i.imgur.com/0ikvcgq.jpg and i.imgur.com/phAXnwY.jpg

I would say yes. So it's rubbing now (wasnt a larger tire that was removed before you got it)?
It is very common for scooters to have this type of damage. Usually corrected by replacing the triple tree unless the frame got bent. Often it's the center post (pivot post) that gets bent. You cannot straighten it because it's tempered steel and would probably stress crack.
If the frame is bent, you may need a different frame.
That nut is the one you remove to take off the triple tree.
If you can disassemble the plastics and take photos of the top of the forks as clear as the others ones, we can probably see the damage.

Yes check the frame if you can. Take off the plastics up front and inspect the steel tubing that is the frame, if you see anything that looks off its probably a bent frame and not worth replacing (you can get a brand new kind of these scooters for like $700 shipped to your door)
but if its just the triple tree you might be able to find a donor or parts on craigslist (99% of these chinese scooter models are the same) or you could possibly find it online and replace that.

Yes, its rubbing now. Didn't think of getting a smaller tire lol. I will google what a triple tree is now. Thanks for the info, I'll take some more pictures when I get it disassembled, maybe it will be obvious to me something is bent, if not maybe you all will know. Thanks again!

Looks to me like your bottoming out the fork. Either the fork is weak and in need of a rebuild or it's been hitting some big bumps.

Hmm, it did make a lot worse scraping sound after I went over a pothole. I'm really excited to see what you guys think when I take pictures of it with the plastics off. I'm new to this forum - is it more appropriate to post the pictures in this thread in a few days when I get around to it, rather than make a new thread?

It'll go to the top of the forum section in the category it was posted in and appear in the "Recent" posts so we will be able to see it.

I have run int a bunch of that particular model where the same exact thing happens. I always chalked it up to a fat-ass rider (me) and a shitty front end design. Just a couple weeks ago I worked on a Tao Tao with the same exact wear pattern. Even the brake cable was worn just like yours.
You may be able to loosen the two clamps on the triple tree that hold the top of the forks and slide them down a little if they are protruding up past the clamps. Usually the fork tube is even with the top of the clamp but there's Enough clamp there that you can maybe get away with an 1/8-1/4 inch below the top and still be okay.

I read it more of an issue with the front forks bottoming out. Somewhere it says rubbing but I think it is talking about the rear spring and the rear rubbing on the rear tire. Is it possible your forks are stuck in a fully compressed position, causing the tire to rub against the plastic?

Lol about the fat rider, I'm 125 lbs so I don't think that's it. Thanks for all the replies. I am learning a lot.

It only rubs when you hit the front brake right?

Who the heck designs a scooter or motorcycle that the front tire hits the frame or fairings when it bottoms out? By any chance, did that company have 3 engineers...one name Larry, one named Curly and one named Moe?
