What RPM are you at doing 40MPH?
Have you ever been through a carb tuning process as suggested or just swapped in the 85 from the 75 (IIRC)?

Like 90gtvert stated , is # 85 jet too large causing engine to bog at higher rpm? Sparkplug wet/sooty?

no restrictions of any kind left except for maybe exhaust and no tuning to the transmission yet You just answered your own question up there ^ No tuning to the transmission. Without that you can put a 440 Dodge V8 engine in that thing..and you will still only go 40mph. Why? Because you can only go as fast as gearing and CVT/Transmission tuning allows. I have 2 posts for ya..PLEASE read them and then you should have no questions..AND a faster Scoot.. 1. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/13160/discovered-type-scoot-restriction-today2. www.apexatv.com/techsupport/apexclutch.pdfEnjoy...Glenn

There's is such a thing at too much air to the carburetor.
What type of air filter are you running?
What color is the spark plug?
Have you played with different carb needle settings?

Dont get upset man. I just did a 50mm bbk, a A9 cam, DLH variator, #90 jet with new carb, new belt. Im getting 40mph (gps) on flat ground, maybe 42-43 downhill. My stock 49cc speed was 37mph on flat and 40-43 downhill!
My brother just did a 50mm bbk and jetted carb and he is at 48-50mph, same make and model scooter. These china scoots vary from motor to motor off the assembly line.
But doesnt the bbk pull harder and stronger? Quicker off the line? Im betting it does. Its prolly down to cvt tuning and different gears now for you, just like me. Go to my profile and check out my threads, we are experiencing the same thing.
Dont get impatient, parts are cheap. Buy the cheaper parts to experiment to get the results you want and learn from the process, then get better quality to replace after market parts as you can afford.
I would start researching on different final drive gears once you know you have the bugs worked out in what you have now. Check valve lash, a/f mixture on carb. And these guys here a gurus when it comes to cvt tuning.
Hell, my displacement is more than yours and we have same top speed. Once you get it dialed in and all the tuning done, maybe a gear swap, youll be in the wind.

Maybe the cdi is restricted. The cdi on my Tomos Nitro is restricted right around 40 mph.
