I never tried one of those. I like that they include a new exhaust gasket, rollers and a new coil. The fact there's no wrist bearing included on most BBK's is beyond me. I mean do you really want to hammer more power on an old used bearing?
Still, it seems like a fair price to me.

Autotechs kits are decent. They aren't Polini/Malossi/Stage 6 quality, but they aren't Polini/Malossi/Stage 6 prices either. I think they'd satisfy most people's needs for a BBK. I believe 190mech had that kit. It should be fine with the stock carb (with adjustments of course) and exhaust.

i got a compression tester from harbor and it reads under 90. i took it down and found the ring had snagged a port on the triton r4. i will be ordering the bbk. what will i need to make the stock carb work? i am looking for the following info.. 1. man jet size range to order? 2. will the stock needle be in a tunable range? 3. is the pilot jet ok as is? 4. any other advise?

1)75-95 has worked for me so far. I know that's a big range, but same elevation, basically the same kits, etc... and I've had a 20 size range. 2)If you wanna play it safe, start by moving the needle to the richest position, which would be putting the clip in the lowest groove on the needle. 3)The pilot should be fine. 4) 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=yamajog&action=display&thread=556

Just be very careful if you modify the stock airbox at all. I found out the hard way that it can lead to jetting nightmares with a stock generic carb.

i plan to leave the airbox stock, i might try removing the snorkel after i get a baseline established. i had a suzuki dr650 if you gave it to much air the needle would run out of adjustment and then you would need to go after-market. i do not see any after-market needles for the leader carb, so good point.

i measured the old cylinder its an airsal 47mm, looks like the ports were never chamfered causing the ring to snag a port. i will be sure to attend to that detail. the carb had a 70 main jet and the needle was close to the top/lean notch but a #9 heat range plug seem to be the only accommodation for the increased cc. i have gone to the lowest/rich notch needle position as suggested and a 90 main jet. i got the jets from rocky mtn, $3.49 each + 7 shipping.. still waiting on the bbk to clear customs in san fran ca..

the bbk arrived, 8 days to the east coast. the rings were gapped at .005", the cly wall was cross hatch honed and the ports were already chamfered.. i washed the rings and cly in solvent to remove any manufacturing residuals. the solvent was clean, with no color change, no particles. then i coated the parts with 2 stroke oil, especially the cly which is cast iron. since it was a 2 ring piston i put the piston in the cly and then attached the wrist pin to the con rod.. easier? i did need to trim the base gasket with a razor knife because no matter which way i flipped it, it over hung the ports by about 1/32" in some spots. i need to mix up some 25/1 to try and start it, next week.

Sounds like your good to go. All my experiences with Carlos <Autotech> and his parts have been good. He also answers his E-mail in short order. If your looking for descent parts at an affordable price, he's a good place to go. Sometimes shipping takes a couple of weeks. But he usually ships his higher price parts at a higher shipping rate. Just my experiences with him.

Way to go! By the way does your carb say 'Leader' on it? If it does be a little careful coming off WOT. Mine had problems with running lean and seizing after a full throttle run with a 90MJ at around 55ish MPH.

yup, that's the one qj-50 " leader" sounds like a good reason for a new carb..how does a dellorto or dell clone 21mm work with the stock exhaust and intake?
